Why not war against Islam?

I think that both islam and christianity should be fought - not with bullets but with education, not with intolerance for people but with intolerance for superstition and accommodationism, for failing to apply skepticism to all aspects of one's life.

Education is the only sane way to examine these situations.

agreed....a liberal* and objective education, which most of the rabid christians here oppose, much like the taliban opposes education.

*liberal, not in a political sense, but the true meaning of the word.

yeah, no kidding.

And, by the way, next time, let's set Mohammed Atta down and crack open a book on critical thinking and logic. That should stop 'em.

Too bad reality does not fit into your fantasy world. You are just as delusional and blinded by ideology.

I'm an atheist.

Why on earth can one NEVER talk about Islam without some people IMMEDIATELY coming out of the wodds shouting "CHRISTIANS DID BAD STUFF TOO! LOOK WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS! CRUSADES WERE EEEEEEEEVIL CHRISTIAN PLOTS TO GRAB LAND AND KILL MUSLIMS!" and try to derail the conversation?

4 pages, seriously you guys.

Seriously.

I see that you are beginning to see how obtuse and argumentative this crowd you've attracted can be. It's really a waste of time trying to talk to them about the subject you've chosen. Their only goal is to bury your point of view under an avalanche of verbosity.

Play dead. They'll throw words over you for a while and then go away.

Sure. Let's start with the knowledge that the 19 hijackers of 9-11 were college educated and from upper-class families. What does that educated knowledge tell us?

How about that *********** education is not the *********** answer and regardless of what we want to believe, there are human beings among us that need to be *********** taken off the *********** planet?

When I run into people who think Islam is such a dangerous religion, I'm compelled to ask, "so what do you want to do about it?"

How do you want to deal with 1/5th of the worlds population? How do you want to deal with the 47 nations that have Muslim majorities?

Personally, I think we can coexist. I think that openness and communication are far better tools than hatred and violence.

But, for those who don't think we can get along with Muslims, what do you really plan on doing about it? What do you hope our government does?

How do you want to deal with over 1.5 billion human beings that you can't see getting along with?

Education into the bogus bases for religions.
That may have a positive effect on those ensorcelled by religious thought.
The hard-core crazies... Identified and controlled/cured/fixed before they can wreak havoc on the rest of us?
How any person can be instructed in the sources of religions* and not discern the falsehoods all of them are based on baffles me.

I'm friends with many Muslims at the Mall. They own/operate many stores and kiosks there.
One of the women has taken off her scarf... and waves at me when I see her.
I do believe the typical Muslim in the West is quite happy to be free of the lunatic fringe/violence so endemic in the East.

"But if we are good to others, they will be good to us " <<buzzer>> WRONG!

"But no one wants to die. Everyone wants to live in peace " <<buzzer>> WRONG!

I prefer my kid growing up in a world where another 9-11 style attack won't happen. Compassion and forgiveness was tried by Bill Clinton when dealing with Osama bin Laden. We paid for that error.

Clinton was almost handed bin Laden but Bill Clinton was afraid of angering the Muslim world.

Your Openness and communication failed. 9-11 happened because we were too ignorant to acccept the reality. We figured there is no such thing as evil. Education, oppenness and communication will help us all get along, we thought. It was not possible for the kind of brutal insanity of 9-11 to happen, we thought. How is it possible for an educated, sane person to train to fly a jet only to fly it into buildings and kill children?

When reality does not fit the narrative, you do not cling to the narrative. That is stupid. And stupid hurts and kills.

Which would you prefer:
  • Blind
  • Miserable
Pick one.

In my opinion, most people here have picked "Blind". If reality makes you miserable, you ignore it. Your passive ideology blinds you. You "believe" people are basically good. you "believe" we can all get along. You "believe" in the power of education. You are blind. But you are at peace and happy. Reality makes you sad.

Oddly, you are have more in common with religious extremeists than you think.

YES. I used to work with a guy who was a Muslim from Pakistan who came over here in the 80's got an education and married a western woman.

He told me he could never go back to Pakistan because the whole country is radicalized (reason why he left it) and they would kiil him and his wife if he came back (she is a western white woman)

You ppl do not know crap about those mideast countries over there.

Yeah go to Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, etc...and teach your liberalistic liberal Aetheist bullcorn and see what happens. I am 100% sure you will be killed in the first week. You ppl are ignorant.

Also, I am saying this again....the Holy Roman Empire was not holy and is not the model for the Christian Religion!!!

They were a pagan culture that murdered Jesus then later on Constantine seen a flaming cross (which the KKK later used) in the sky, then proceded to kill hundreds of thousands in the name of Jesus. It was a model for the kingdom of the antiChrist and not Christians. Get this through your thick skulls.

If you people cannot understand this simple fact then you are delusional and do not even understand Christianity much less Islam.

That Oslo terrorist wanted to be a Knight Templar because what he wanted was a revival of the old Holy Empire.
Any Christian scholar can tell you that the revival of the Old UnHoly Roman Empire is nothing more than the kingdom of the AntiChrist!!!

I call this the Time Traveler's fallacy. Why do I call it that? Because if you ask someone what they would do with a time machine they will usually reply with something like "I would go back in time and kill Adolf Hitler", believing it'll cause the Holocaust to not happen. This is a very naive frame of mind.

In the case of 9/11 there were more than just Sudam Hussane involved, more than just the pilots as well. You're talking about an act involving hundreds, if not thousands of conspirators. So just removing one person wouldn't have kept 9/11 or the Holocaust from happening.

Education would be the only solution not involving untold amounts of bloodshed.

Y'know, if you're going to rant and rave about how ignorant "ppl" are, it's best not to immediately make it apparent that you don't know the difference between the Roman Empire and the Holy Roman Empire.

You know what you believe is not really reality.
But you "choose" to believe it because you "feel" it is more ethical.

It isn't the truth. But the truth is too cruel to accept.

Liberalism is a mental illness. Michael Savage is right.

The more Liberal our decision makers in power are, the more liklihood of another terrorist attack is.

Yes, Bill, we know, liberals suck.

No I do. One worshipped pagan gods such as zues etc. and the other one hijacked Christianity.

0 for 2. Zeus was Greek.

Further, the Roman Empire did (as you clumsily tried to note) eventually convert to Christianity.

I've been to Syria, a good friend of mine (Westerner) has been to Iran, I'm friends with devout muslims from three of the other countries, and on three separate occasions I've been in bars having drinks with Saudis. In all cases the countries and/or its people seemed pretty mellow. I felt safer in Damascus than I did in London. My Canadian friend really liked Iran and said Iranians were friendly and kind.

How many of these countries have you been to?
