Why Not Palin for President?

I'd just like to make a few comments on the Ivy League vs. non-Ivy League discussion.

Yes, Ivy League schools can offer a superior education for a number of reasons:

The big secret is that once you have graduated and start working in your chosen field, your success is determined by what you accomplish in that field.

I was reading the other day that at her book tour events, people are required to refer to her as governer.

That's fine, as a form of address. If you're speaking to her directly, or even referring to her in the 3rd person, "Governor Palin" is standard. But to say, "Palin is a such-and-such governor" is just plain weird.

My gut tells me she does not want to be president.

She "wrote" (ahem) a book to make some money. She probably agreed to go out and promote it. She cashed in big time. Soon she is going to go help raise he kid and grandkid. In 10 years we will be thinking, "I wonder what ever happened to..."

Do you really think that a corporate executive who has made millions outsourcing jobs to Nowheristan understands the unemployment problem? Could he be trusted to take effective steps to bring jobs back to the States, when he himself helped create the problem in the first place (and pocketed a tidy sum doing it)?

I lost my job for the first time in my life to off-shoring. They thought 2 Russians could do my job and they ignored that it wasn't working. At this point, (and I'm a Tech Writer so English skills are essential) they thought they could get an equivalent or better amount of performance out of two people in Russia than they could here. The considerations were all very short-sighted bottom line. In the end, the two Russian workers were let go and they wanted me back. Main problems and these may be cultural or just characteristics of the people we hired -- they weren't great performers. They weren't self-starters and needed A LOT of hand holding.

But upper management doesn't look at these factors -- they see that we can hire 2 or 3 people in another country for the price of one here. It doesn't always work out. Until I think the US can find a way to encourage corporations to keep jobs in the country as opposed to sending them overseas, I don't think it will get better. Manufacturing jobs have long since gone overseas, and now service jobs are going to go. What are we left with? I work in the high-tech computer industry where we're making global communication and collaboration a lot easier. Sometimes I think I should have gone into plumbing or electrical work where you really have to have hands on!

I never heard anyone else bring this up anywhere. Remember Dan Quale? Is/was she less qualified than Dan Quale to be Vice President?

Oh, she's going to pursue a public life in some form or another. It seems to me that she really, really likes being adulated.

it does not take a rocket scientist to understand that Palin, while a very nice lady, is an idiot.

George Bush was a huge moron. do we really need another Moron-in-Chief?

There has to be someone more qualified and talented to be POTUS than Sarah Palin. There are over 300,000,000 people in the U.S., eight or nine of them were actually born here. Surely, one of those eight or nine people is more qualified than Palin.

We will never know.

She is the country's most popular Governor. But with the Liberal Mainstream media, we will never know her good side. And with SNL situated in NYC, we will never forget her mistakes and we will come to think that her comments taken out of context or exaggerated are what she really said.

As others have mentioned, she left that public service in order to make money and enjoy her fame.

Intelligence is not two dimensional. Some of the Presidents with high IQ's were the worst ones.

Would she make a better VP than Biden?

No, she would not make a better VP then Biden, but she would be a prettier one.

If the President was assassinated, who of those two would I trust to take over...Biden in a heartbeat.

Intelligence is far from 2D, I agree, she still has very little of it.

a Rock is more qualified, IMO, then Palin, but the Constitution prevents Rocks from being president...I think.

Well, a rock is almost always over 35 years old, and there's no constitutional provision about maximum age. True there's no birth certificate, but perhaps a birth announcement in the Daily Granite would do.

Probably less. Dan Quayle, for all his faults, did in fact serve in Congress and had some experience with international issues. Otherwise, they are about equal, including the fact that both were added to the ballot mostly to attract women voters.

Here is why I do not like her.

(A) I do not think she is very smart. I mean intellectually. She is cunning.
(B) She is cunning.
(C) She is a far right conservative
(D) She, IMO, is not qualified, IN ANY WAY, to be leader of the free world.
(E) She lacks any form of world or international curiosity.

Redeeming qualities.

(A) She is a parent, and seemingly a decent one
(B) She worked hard enough to obtain a US State Governor title.

I agree but would amend E to say "intellectual curiosity". That to me is dangerous for a free world leader of. I doubt she could think through an issue to come to the best conclusion versus use her good old fashioned "common sense."

That´s the problem... managers who know a lot about making money, but have no clue about how their company makes money.

Sort of like politicians like Bush jr or Palin, who know about getting elected, but the finer points of what to actually do without causing a train-wreck elude them.
