Why no Newton cult?

Idols. Idolatry has natural deities. It has a lot going for it.

Like that kid who wants a bicycle for Christmas, and hides the creche figure of Mary in a drawer, then prays "Jesus, if you ever want to see your mother again....".

I have Santa Cthulhu looking at the Christmas tree at home.

Is there a Miles Davis cult?

Perhaps Tai Chi's inquiry was about whether or not we believe Newton believed in a supernatual deity.

In which case the answer is most certainly yes.

Well, when someone says:

"Also, he did his work without the support of a supernatural diety. "

it is hard to tell what they mean for sure.

The person who wrote it could mean:

1. there is no god(s)
2. Newton didn't believe in god(s)
3. or something else that isn't obvious

1. is difficult to prove last time I checked, and as for 2., Newton certainly believed in God.

I suspect what was meant was that Newton figured out his laws through application of reason, observation, and math. They were not a revealed truth presented to him in a dream by some supernatural entity.

Don't you tend to get a little un-glued when anyone else uses the word ' certainly ' or it's synonyms?

Um, maybe??

Well, we have Newton's own writings on this you know.

And you are certain he wrote the truth?

Or, another spin would be...

So, if someone writes something down, they must be telling the truth? ( Or is that just if Newton writes something down? )

P.S. Has anyone told you, your avatar looks like a couple of tadpoles getting it on?

I already belong to the cult of Charles Darwin! Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Yes. Newton was telling the truth when he, numeros times, mentioned his belief in God.

Good, because that is what it was meant to look like.
