Why Greens are calling for new suburb name to be scrapped

This makes me very angry, Lynch is an Irish surname (Wikipedia) and now we have members of the 'hypersensitivity generation' freaking out over it.

The suburb, called Lynch, is named after Jim Lynch, a highly respected former Mayor of Blacktown, but some say the name is offensive to indigenous Australians.


The Greens say the new name will remind Aboriginal people of racial hate crimes.


Jim Lynch's son Peter says that trying to make a connection between his father's name and racial injustice is just "not on."

Although the institution closed in 1833, the road heading out to the internment camp became known as the Black Town Road. In 1860 the Railway Department gave the name of Black Town Road Station to the railway station at the junction of the railway and the Black Town Road, with the name shortening to Blacktown by 1862​

Why should we be so attached to the name of some small-town mayor? It is not easy to see why some think change might be a good idea. This kind of thing does seem to draw a lot of “PC gone mad” and “very angry” freak outs.

Brisbane has a few Boundary Streets, which were original night curfew lines that could not be crossed by indigenous Australians.

In this case, I suspect it started as the suggestion of someone who actually did make the connection and actually did think it was funny.

Sometimes the "SJWs" are right, and if the name is landing so poorly with some people for a reason so easy to understand, come up with a new name. Being obstinate about a new name makes a lot less sense than seeing it as offensive. If Mayor Lynch was really so great, find some other way to honor him.

This seems to be saying that the word "lynch" wasn't used in Australia in the same manner as in the US. Is this correct? If so that seems really strange that anyone would care.

If the suburb is brand new then whatever don't use the name. If it's an established name then tough crap.

Really I'm just tired of everyone crying about everything and I'm usually on the side of the people being cried about, just because. Tired of this crap. Can't anyone take a joke anymore?
