Why does the U.S. Mint hate America?

"The first one sold for $600 before everyone knew how common they actually were," he said. "They're going for around $40 to $60 on eBay now, and they'll probably settle in the $50 range."

That's good news, actually. An atheist dollar worth $50 godly ones :)

The new dollar coins have the motto on the edge not on one of the faces.

I guess some missed that step.

How did they not get struck with the motto?

They checked "none of the above".

Other coins will be struck with "Allahu Akbar", "Hari Krishna", "Thor Rules", "A Toast To Bacchus", and "This Coin Protected By The Touch Of His Noodly Appendage".

There are contests, similar to the artistic ones for choosing what will be engraved on the backs. I have been trying to garner support for a limerick-themed one, but it was rejected for lack of an identifiable deity.

I don’t think it was a mistake. I think they did it on purpose. It’s called marketing.

Ugh!

Below is one of those stupid e-mail chain letters that I recieved at my work e-mail yesterday. I wrote back asking the Sender to stop sending me such e-mails.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DON’T USE THE NEW DOLLAR UNLESS YOU WANT THE GOVERNMENT TO TAKE “IN GOD WE TRUST “ OFF ALL OUR MONEY!

IT’S TIME WE ALL STOOD UP AND SAID “THIS IS ENOUGH!” THIS IS OUR COUNTRY….A CHRISTIAN COUNTRY AND WE WANT TO HONOR OUR GOD.

IF OTHERS DON’T LIKE IT….LET THEM GO BACK TO THEIR COUNTRY AND HONOR THEIR OWN GOD THERE.

THIS IS OUR WAY…OUR RELIGION….OUR COUNTRY… AND WE ARE GOING TO KEEP IT THAT WAY….YOU CANT TAKE OUR GOD, OUR COUNTRY AND MAKE IT YOURS….IT BELONGS TO US….PROUD AMERICANS THAT LOVE JESUS CHRIST

NEW DOLLAR COIN ( DOES NOT HAVE IN GOD WE TRUST) TELL THEM

TO STICK THEM!!!!!

This new coin came out this month. The U.S. Mint hopes the redesigned $1 coin will win acceptance with consumers.

It does not have In God We Trust on it. Another way of leaving God out.

Send this on and let consumers decide if it will win acceptance or not.

Lets just keep spending our paper money forget the new coin

Am I the only one who now can't get the stupid John Mellencamp/GM commercial song out of their head after reading that chain letter?

At least they didn't tell you to send it to 10 people so you could receive a miracle.;)

Ugh. That commericial that might as well have the tagline, "You know who doesn't buy American trucks? Al Qaeda."

I believe there was a case a couple of years ago where mint workers deliberately mucked up some coins, then tried to smuggle them out.

Nice try, guys!

U.S. Mint Apologizes for "Godless Dollar" Coin Release
Philadelphia, PA (Rotters) - US mint spokesperson Becky Bailey today confirmed that well over 50,000 of the new United States dollar coins had been struck in error with the face of founding father George Washington replaced by that of right wing pundit Ann Coulter. In addition, the coins were struck with the traditional edge inscription "In God We Trust" replaced with "In Ann We Trust"...

To be called the C888 Dollar as part of the "Coins for C888s" program I assume - honoring the current biggest one! Great marketing!! Right wing nut jobs should eat this one up!! (pun intended)

"The United States Mint understands the importance of the inscriptions 'In God We Trust' and 'E Pluribus Unum' as well as the mint mark and year on U.S. coinage. We take this matter seriously," the statement said.

God Bless Freedom of Religion!

The Mint won't really make any money from collectors who like error coins as they'd have to be released to banks before making their way to coin shows/eBay. The prices for error coins are going to be the same if purchased directly from the mint.

If you meant raising awareness of the new dollar coins, well, I suppose it's possible.

In appreciation of the sensitivity of offended believers, I will be happy to trade a normal dollar for any godless ones.
