Why did China commit 8000 PLA soldiers as UN Peacekeepers?

Not "I am the very model of a modern Commie terrorist"?

I stole it from a book in which a would-be leader was told that they wouldn't know a "clever plan" under the same circumstances.

This suddenly reminds me of a quote from Frank Burns on MASH.

"We're here with the U. N ... which I personally have nothing against, except that it's full of foreigners. Of course, it's what did in your League of Nations."

Well, fair enough, though as mine's a patter song and yours isn't, there's room for both in a well written libretto...

In this thread Tippit rants about commies, dog whistles about teh joos and fails to provide anything to support his claims.

Typical CT.

Exactly. I am not surprised or upset, because it is what I have come to expect
from Conspiracy kooks. Don't expect anything else.

Tippiit is also a rabid Isolationist, not wanting the US to have ANY involvment in anything beyond it;s shores.
That has worked out real well when tried. You can lock yourself in, but you can't lock the world out.

The UN is far from being a perfect organization, but it serves, however fautily, a useful purpose for it's humantarisn operations if for no other reason.

Good question! The answer is that the UN was created by globalist totalitarians to serve their agenda. That agenda will include the US, right up until the point that they decide to destroy the US because it has no further use.

The idea of the UN being able to destroy anything is silly.
More and more I think you are rejecing the 20th Century, and want to turn the clock back to the 19th century. Ain't happening, pal.

I have a sibling who has done U.N. tours. It's not like they'll send all of a countries troops to the same destination. You'll be split off, and sent to work with the troops of other countries.

The UN does favor some nation;s peacekeepers over others. FOr a long time Irish troops were a favorite since Ireland was seen as seen as a country that had few dogs in the hunt as far as foreign affairs were concerned.

You do realize that the founding nations of the UN were the Allies of WWII?

We can accept that Uncle Joe was a totalitarian, but are you seriously calling Roosevelt, Churchill, MacKenzie-King, etc. globalist totalitarians?

In principle, the UNSC could pass resolutions that undercut US sovereignty and global influence. But the US holds a veto on the council. And neither China nor Russia are globalists - they're nationalist expansionary hegemons. So they'd love to undercut the US, but game theory strongly encourages them to maintain the status quo instead. Perhaps the UK and France would prefer a more globalist world order, that undercut all three of their fellow veto-holders, but those veto holders are unlikely to allow such measures to pass.

And that, I think, is about as close as the UN could possibly get to destroying the US.

You hear this all the time on the right. Fits in that they want to turn the clock back to the 1800's.
I would love to hear Tippit's (and the name alone should tell you what you are dealing with) opinion on the US being involved in World War 2....

That is what amazes me about the conpsiracy loons. They are making a pretty weak organization into SPECTRE and HYDRA combined.

I've joked in the past that the real reason the UN contacted the BBC and asked them to change UNIT from the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce to the UNified Intelligence Taskforce on "Doctor Who" is because UNIT is an effective organization that gets a lot done, and the UN didn't want people to have unrealistic expectations of them.

I'm on the right and I pretty much never hear this. Where are you getting "all the time" from?

What interests me about the conspiratorial mindset is it's seeming inability to stop embracing insane nonsense. They can't not add more and more elements, no matter how stupid or mutually contradictory, to their belief set.
I have serious doubts about the commonly accepted version of events regarding the deaths of Rudolf and Mary von Vetsera in 1889 but this has never caused me to embrace (for example) Trutherism, anti-vaccination lies or similar nonsense.

I have friends, family and acquaintances who've served in various places.

And it's not like 8000 soldiers is a lot in today's world. Not even a full division.

To be fair, a reinforced infantry brigade, all in one place, with commensurate logistical and air support, would be a pretty serious piece of business to drop onto the African continent. But obviously China isn't doing anything like that at all.
