"Why can't we hate men?"

Whaaaaat? With whom are all the straight women supposed to have sex? I'll be damned if I'm going to support an even more competitive market than the one that already exists.

That's what I want to know. I assume they think sex toys would fill the void; as a single straight woman working on over a decade of being single at this point, I'm here to tell ya, it won't. And I'm not ashamed to say so. If I met the guy of my dreams today, I would completely unashamedly get into bed with him TONIGHT.

Now, you build me a sex robot capable of attending to my every sexual need... we'll at least talk. But given that I'd also like to have conversations and share every day experiences with a significant other, the chances of that being enough are not good.

I believe there would be one man to many women in this situation*, so you'd probably get a slot for the sex and the talking about your day and then be hustled on when one of your sister-wives wanted their turn.

I cant see it working out well, to be honest. For anyone.

*Working out the specifics of the arrangement would be, er, interesting.

The thing is the type of people that promote this attitude are anti social as hell. Things like this are all about anti social folKS trying to make the world as edgy and awkward as they are.

It's like a whole generation of sad ******** realized it's much easier to make everyone else worse at interaction than to make themselves better at it.

Really bothv extreme sides want the same thing a world in which their type of socialization is at the top of the food chain. The crazy sjw folks want everyone to be awkward and distant and the PUA idiots, they want women to act like their opinion is worth anything.

Both groups have came up with equally stupid methods of achieving this. Hopefully they both fail miserably.

A commendable (and rationalist) attitude.

On another topic altogether, has anyone yet established that the author of the original op-ed is indeed a radical_feministWP?

That is a good question. A quick Google search of her doesn't yield much; her academic credentials, the op-ed of course, and several rebuttals to her opinion, but nothing that screams "radical feminist" in the sense of the more extreme end of the spectrum we've been debating here. I do think she could probably fall into the overall category, but looking at the Wiki page for the subject, it seems there are multiple levels of so-called "radical feminism" that are all lumped into the same category, which seems slightly disingenous to me. I can see elements I'd agree with in the overall category, but I doubt anyone could call me a "radical" feminist. I suppose the question of her inclusion in that group would really have to be put to her directly.

You will not be surprised to learn that this was advocated for by a lesbian professor. She's not a fan of heterosexuality. And supposedly you wouldn't need sex for reproduction. Merging eggs together kills two birds with one stone: it makes men superfluous, and guarantees female offspring.

Like I said, cray-cray. But not really out of the ordinary for feminist academia.

No, sex toys aren't supposed to fill the void (PHRASING!). You're supposed to be a lesbian. You're only heterosexual because the patriarchy has brainwashed you into it. It's like Stockholm syndrome.

Merging eggs seems way too difficult to me. Women do not ejaculate in the sense men do, so sexual congress between women would not result in pregnancy; it requires harvesting eggs and merging them in a petri dish, and even then there's no guarantee that the eggs would actually begin splitting and form a fetus, as far as I know (although I am admittedly not a fertilization specialist, so please correct me if it's been accomplished already by a mammal of some sort). In short, not a fan of the idea, but I suppose my above post kind of makes that clear. :D

It is.

Yup.

and even then there's no guarantee that the eggs would actually begin splitting and form a fetus

I think there may have been a few successful experiments on animals. But I don't think it's fool-proof, and it's a LOT more difficult than ordinary sperm-egg in vitro fertilization. And even that is too expensive to scale to global reproduction.

Nobody with a clue and a desire to see the human species survive is a fan. But that's not an obstacle when you're a lunatic with tenure.

In the not-to-distant future, having kids will probably be much different than it is now. I can see couples "designing" their kid, and society regulating what's in and out of bounds.

Not at all confident that women would do a worse job than men if the primary desideratum is long-term survival. Men have given us global wars, thermonuclear weapons, and on a couple occasions they very nearly gave us both.

I'm not saying they would (though I see no evidence to show they'd do better either). In terms of survival of the species, I'm talking about trying to run reproduction on the basis of egg merging rather than the good old fashioned way. That's a guaranteed recipe for rapid and catastrophic demographic collapse.

Oh for pity's...

Am I the only one who remembers what Futurama said about robosexuals!?

(Also, I'm far from the only person to note that the sexbot industry seems to be concentrating on men only for now...)

What are you talking about? Vibrators are sex robots. They have been around a lot longer than sex robots for men, and they are getting pretty sophisticated.

When it comes to sexbots I think we are going to see advanced in three areas that will create something similar before an actual robot becomes a reality: computers capable of realistic human language generation in real time, so you could have a (bounded and superficial) conversation in which it can crack funny jokes and simulate real emotions. Text to speech that’s indistinguishable from a human talking, and realistic real time video image generation (of a face say) so you can have a conversation with what looks and feels like a real person.

Probably it would just be a slightly more advanced version of Alexa, filling that role, but given those attributes it will also be the first widely adopted “sexbot”

And will always be niche
