Why can't i read digital displays in dreams?

One of the great things about these kind of discussuons is the realization that's it not just me!

I've had dreams where I'm faced with a book. If I don't try too hard I seem to be able to understand what's written - even if it appears to be written in a language I don't understand (or even a language that doesn't exist).
But as soon as I try to concentrate and bring it into focus it becomes blurred - like trying to read it through frosted glass.

Talking about lucid dreaming - I've had these for years. One of the weirdest was waking up and going to the toilet - only to find that the toilet had been stolen. It was then that I realised I hadn't actually woken up at all.

I wonder if I'm still asleep :)

Weird.

Hmm... I have definitely had the "shift" before, but I can only remember digital clocks from anxiety dreams where I am late for something, so it tends to make "sense" narratively.

I can read clocks and digital displays when I'm running late in a dream- similar to Tubbablubba, they seem to race forward, one minute it's 0900, the next 1330. I can't recall if I've noticed clocks in other dreams.

I'm generally dyslexic in dreams, but can sometimes read (and tell the time from analogue watches ) in dreams just before awakening. I suspect some verbal module is "coming on line" as I start to wake.
Intriguingly- I can't visualise when awake. I can't "picture things in my mind", though I dream in widescreen 3-d Technicolor.
