why are the same religious arguments made over and over again?

Ahaaa.. we have a missionary in our midst. :jaw-dropp

That's one way of looking at it, I guess. I think of myself as a soldier in the cause, but we're all apt to self-inflation.

eta : We share a distaste for the Vatican. That's something we can work on together before we have to go head-to-head, and it's a big enough job that we may never have to.

Certainly true in my case - that's m'dog Judas up there.

Probably true in your case as well, which is a tad unsettling.

Well mine is more an affection for the film Blade Runner than an affection for ramming my head through walls, despite my presence in certain threads.;)

We crossed posts there. I don't think plumjam's interpretation is invalid, and he is saying at the same time that he's not a missionary. Which I don't think he is. He just hangs out here.

It's the missionaries that tick me off.

Oops, I was trying to slide in a double entendre about missionary position, and might not have hit the mark.

That's an interesting question. Some blend of Scientology, Raelianism (?) and New Age pick'n'mix perhaps :) ? The Buddislamism of Frank Herbert's Dune series?

What would really throw the cat amongst the pit-bulls is contact with another religiously-inclined species.
Perhaps the FSM would be the appropriate compromise religion. Assuming, that is, that the aleins are tentacle monsters. But then, I think we'll have a lot of explaining to do when they see our Anime.
