Who's your favourite Harry Potter character?

Not a Huge Harry Potter fan. nothing against it, just not my cuppa. that said, i read the series cause my galpal wanted me to (she has to read Ender's Game now). My favorite charachter was Peeves the poltergeist who was basically an *******. I don't think he was in any of the movies though.

Sure he was.

I'm another who goes for Luna. Sweet and gentle and most forbearing and returning-good-for-evil; and shrewdly insightful. Also wonderfully bonkers, in a benign way; plus, I'm a pushover for anything cryptozoology-related.

Hermione would have been my favorite if JK hadn't writen her off as in love with Ron. That just did not work. And honestly, Ginny was such a small character, how she can be anyone's favorite is beyond me.

So I'd have to say Fred and George Weasley were my favorites.

Ginny was younger and quieter, but she took after her mom in the "Don't mess with family" thing - and she would have killed for Harry. Also, it took about three sentences into the character when I realized that she and Harry would be a couple, not Harry and Hermione. Because that's how Rowling wrote her from the start.

By the by, if you feel I am making that up after the fact, you wil find me making that prediction long before it was clear in any other way both in Potter threads here and on several Potter forums as well as on IMDB (as Hunter). I also gave my rationale, which, unfortunately, Rowling never gave (not unfortunate because it was mine and she did not use it - I just assumed it was her reasoning because of it's logic - but because she apparently never realized it as a perfect explanation for that stuff she did randomly otherwise).

My rationale: It was noted that the old pure lines were weakening a number of times (intermarriage can do that). The Weasleys were a pure line. Harry was very powerful, and had muggle and pure blood, Hermione had both also but was differently powerful (and, here we can add Fleur, who married Bill and who had pure and "creature" blood). That is three old line/pure bloods who are Wesley and three new, powerful non-pure magicers mixing genes and boosting the family genetic line. High odds that on that basis the Weasleys would be the founding of a new generations(s) of high level magicers with likely new and stonger magic than seen before.

Another vote for the delightful Luna Lovegood. But I'm surprised Hagrid was so low on the list.

In the books, my favourite character was Neville Longbottom. His growth and development from bumbling, but well-meaning, kid to heroic leader of the resistance inside Hogwarts was a great story arc. I've always said (including on this forum) that I'd love to read a book about Neville's seventh year at Hogwarts - resisting the Carrows, recruiting other kids, hiding out in the Room of Requirement, etc.

Honourable mention would go to Lupin, who was so stoic in dealing with his "furry little problem."

In the movies, HBC's portrayal of Bellatrix Lestrange was so over-the-top brilliant that she just edges out Neville and Lupin.

I've been re-reading the series over the course of the past few days (halfway through Book Six!), and everything I'm finding reinforces my belief that Harry Potter is annoying, and Snape is awesome. ;)

No, didn't really care for the pets.

Neville, The nice kid with little to no talent who has to compete with the really talented types is too easy to turn into a really bad character, but this was handled quite well, taking a long time and a lot of hard work - plus Neville gaining about 5 levels in bad ass for taking out Nagini (which was way better in the book - fire makes it so, and fire on your head just amps that right up)

Argus Filch
" pity they let the old punishments die. Was a time detention would find you hanging by your thumbs in the dungeons. God, I miss the screaming. "

Neville Longbottom - liked him all along, and agree that there was likely some text that got edited out of the 7th book/tome that would have further underscored his likeability.

McGonigle, Mrs. Weasley (that HOWLER!) Lovely blend of characters all around.

The last book make me not like a lot of things about the whole harry potter story. That whole taboo thing was weird. The ministry having no protection against a few wizards :( Calling in no backup from other countries even though this would be a worldwide problem. Not using the tools that Voldemort used when he took over the ministry against Voldemort and his followers. All those wizards and no protection against the imperius curse? It just made no sense.

All characters had things I liked and things I didn't like. I guess I would also have to give my vote to Neville simply because he was consistent and believable.
