Who's going to TAM3??

OH MY!!! My threats, tantrums and emotional blackmails finally worked with someone!

DD, I found a ticket for USD 770.45.

However, it's a very long flight. Through AA, apparently, there aren't straight fligths to the US from Copenhagen, or all flights are booked. So you must stop at Zurich or London before reaching the US. I hope this is the only inconvenience you have to go through, at least you can get there!

It's long, but... American Airlines.

Continental is impossible. Cheapest ticket, USD 3250!!! I double checked to see if I got the right info, but yes, that's right. I'll keep looking!

I did it in about that much time last year I think. Of course, I had to pay extra for the express service on the new passport because I got it too late. Get a new one ASAP if you can't find it, because if Denmark is anything like here, 8 working days at this time of year equals two and a half weeks because of all the holidays inbetween.

I think apart from the plane ticket, your passport and the hotel in Vegas, there's not much else to take care of. But DO check the roommates thread for offers to share a room. It cuts the price of the room in half which is a considerable savings.
If you fly to LA, I think Loon can accomodate you for one night (he already offered earlier in this thread IIRC).
Don't forget the registration fee for TAM itself though. Other than that, make sure you have enough money to eat (bring travelers cheques if you don't have a credit card), and everything should be just fine.

As far as I can remember, that's all I did last year, and I did nothing but worry about it for no reason :o

United is more sensible. It's Copenhagen - Chicago - Las Vegas. It costs USD 1,335. Here

Maybe you can play a bit with the dates. The difference can be HUGE!

Regarding Lance Burton, try and get the tickets, but if you don't, there will be people who are not going, so they will certainly do something paralell to the show.

When you make a reservation to the hotel, ask for a room in the west wing, the one recently renovated. This is where other TAMgoers will be, so you can start meeting people inside the elevator. :D Good luck!

except for me, I'm staying in the crappy cheap rooms. Wonder if Kitten has a nice room????

Hmmm, we're all crashing Kittens room!:D

OK, Double D, I just looked on expedia.com, and this seems to be the best connection to LA:

Total price for this trip: $677.74

Mon 10-Jan-05

Copenhagen (CPH) Depart 12:20 pm
Arrive Newark (EWR) 3:00 pm Terminal 3
Flight: SAS 909

Leave Newark (EWR) 6:15 PM
Arrive Los Angeles 9:33 pm
Flight: 3931
Operated by: UNITED AIRLINES -- UA83

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tue 18-Jan-05

Depart Los Angeles (LAX) 7:30 am
Arrive Newark (EWR) 3:44 pm
Flight: SAS 3932
Operated by: UNITED AIRLINES -- UA80

Depart Newark (EWR) 5:50 pm
Arrive Copenhagen (CPH) 7:25 am +1 day
Flight: SAS 910

OK, if you can't book online with expedia (or travelocity.com, I'll bet you find the same prices there), call SAS with your flight plans and see if they have a deal that can beat it.

This gets you to Loon's the night of the 19th, you get a chance to rest at his place, then caravan in on the 11th.

If you do all this and absolutely cannot find a roommate on the roomate thread, well, I swore I wouldn't have one but since we tend to agree in Politics all the time. ...(but I hope you can find a roomie, I'm gloomy company)

So, then you have to return to LA on the 17th (Loon is in charge of that) and then get to the LA airport about 4:30am to catch your flight home.

There's a plan. Now you and Loon see if you can make it work.

Good advice: Whatever port of call you will be entering the US, get the phone number of your consulate. Be sure to reach the port of call when the consulate is open.

Rumor has it that it's always good to have phone numbers of people you know in the area. PM me for mine.

As far as I know, Canadians don't need a passport for the USA. I called the number on the application. Why do I feel like I need to be doing something other than packing? Got my flight booked, have to verify a few days beforehand. Down payment for room is taken care of. Umm. Paid for TAM stuff. Getting luggage. Trying to collect clothes I'll need.

What will the weather be like? I'm wondering what kind of clothes to bring.

How much money should I budget for food? On that I'm lost, and have to deal with from Canadian funds to US dollars, so will be that much more expensive.

I just feel like I'm missing something. Ack!

My plane tickest there and back were almost $600.00 Canadian. Sighs. Will be budgeting the rest!!!

You are Canadian....

the weather will be warm and nice to you. Maybe a light jacket for the evening and early morning. A swimsuit of course!

Those from LA and points South will think it is freezing!

Bring whatever you want, funky, fun, or follow the Paul A. plan, whatever is comfy!

It's all about being yourself, or who you want to be!

;)

What? A bathing suit? I don't even own such a thing. Bathing suit shopping is sooo frustrating as well, yeesh, just getting regular clothes that suit my body type in a land of giants is rough. Everything is too long in the arms, too tight over the hips (since the shirts in my size are meant only to go slightly past the waist), or too tight because they aren't my size...kids clothes. Petite stores are freakin rare and expensive. I spent 3 hours trying on clothes on yesterday and found one shirt, in a rare petite section that is mostly bell bottom pants. Bell bottoms for short people? They make a person look like they have hips, knees, and feet. Forget thighs and shins. Like I want to look like a Hobbit. I have huge feet for my size as it is!

Sighs. I can get away with a t-shirt and shorts right? Man, I got some shopping to do yet. I spent the summer in pants. Hmm, have some skirts.

Oh dear, I think I'm finally getting into the "gotta get ready" mode :D

Well there was a nice hot tub last TAM. BUt honestly, you aren't getting me in a bathing suit!

tshirt and jeans, fine! Some dress up, some don't.

And trust me, those tv shows about Vegas, they hire way better looking actors than the people that usually hang around Vegas!

Phew, thank you! One can get in a hot tub with T-shirt on hey? If not, I'll dig up my biking shorts...they are spandex and a some kind of top...bikini or otherwise...might work? Haven't been in any hot tub for like 10 years. I remember warmth and relaxation, could want to try it again!

Eos...no matter what you wear, you will be appreciated. In Vegas, no matter what you wear, you (given geography) will think it is warm (this from my experience last year--short sleeves when the natives were wearing coats). Be comfortable, and that is enough.

Kitty, stop scaring her! :D

Well, according to CNN, this week in Vegas the temperature is between 55-57F for the high and 30-39F for the low, so not quite bikini weather, I gather.

How much money should I budget for food? On that I'm lost, and have to deal with from Canadian funds to US dollars, so will be that much more expensive.

Depends on your tastes. Breakfast at the Casino Buffet will run about $8-10 US, but if you stuff yourself, you can skip lunch...for lunch there are any number of fast food joints, both in the Casinos and out, and dinner can be anything from a $10-12 USD buffet to a $50 USD 5-course meal.

I usually budget $30 USD/day for food, but then I'm a cheap so-and-so. Best advice is to get Skepdudes to take you to dinner. :D

I just feel like I'm missing something. Ack!

You will, I have six toothbrushes in my bathroom to remind me of my most often forgotten item. But it looks like you have the big things done--so don't sweat the small stuff.

Eos, Vegas isn't Outer MOngolia. They have a CVS Pharmacy right down the road. I forgot my toothbrush too, and Pool Boy and I just took a little drive. We also found the cheapest tshirts there (for the kids and babysitter). They've held up really well too!

Honestly, it's fun in Vegas. Very relaxed.

Aboot ;) budgeting for food, you could get by on $15 CND in Vegas. Hutch might thing that $30 USD/day is being cheap, but I'd say it is about appropriate though you could eat cheaper. The $30/day average would work out to you enjoying some cheap eats, along with some indulgences that would be more than worth the expense.

I realize you're a petite gal, but there is no way anyone other than an anorexic could hit a $20-$30 buffet and not eat more than $50-150 worth of food (at a comparable sit down resturaunt).

As far as hot tubbing goes - shut up about any concerns.

It's people like that who can usually move the most amount of food, yet not gain any extra weight (apart from the weight of the food itself).

You're a peach, BrazBabe! Thanks for the trouble of trying to help out this lost soul.

However, I've somehow managed to organize this stuff via the Internet. As I'm pressed for time in January, I've had to make the trip as short as possible. I've thus booked a flight on the 12th with a return on the 17th. I should be at the Las Vegas airport at 15:30 on January 12 and I'll be leaving on January 17 at 9:20.

I very much expect to meet you during this timeperiod. :)

Thanks, exarch. It seems I'm all set now, though. Got a room in the west-end of the Stardust as well. Pricey, but its where the action is!

See you there.

Thanks, Luciana. I've managed to find a flight leaving on the 12th and returning on the 17th. I hope it will be long enough to get acquinted with the JREF'ers! :)
