Who killed Joseph Stalin?

Doesn't seem all that unlikely.

Old age.

Stalin was not young when he died.

I can't for the life of me find that one anecdote where shortly after the war, Stalin repeatedly sends assassins to try to knock this one guy over, a big boss figure himself. And this guy eventually writes Stalin a letter where he tells him to back off cause he has wolves too, "and they won't miss."

That was Tito. I believe a note was found in Stalin's desk.

Josip Broz Tito, leader the communist revolution in Yugoslavia but then had a falling out with Stalin, long story (very long, Wiki has a full read up on it if you're interested) short he wanted Yugoslavia to be communist but not be a Soviet puppet state, Stalin did send several assassins to kill Tito and Tito's response is one of the most bad ass in history.

"Stop sending people to kill me. We've already captured five of them, one of them with a bomb and another with a rifle. If you don't stop sending killers, I'll send one to Moscow, and I won't have to send a second."

Star trek episode Mirror, Mirror:

Mirror Spock: I do not want to command the Enterprise, but if it should befall me, I suggest you remember that my operatives would avenge my death - and some of them... are Vulcans.

There is little doubt that Stalin dying was a great idea: very classy of him to have finally done so. But, as the article itself notes, "The authors state that a cerebral hemorrhage is still the most straightforward explanation for Stalin's death, and that poisoning remains for now a matter of speculation."

I seem to recall from reading The Hunt for Red October that the usual cause of a cerebral hemorrhage in the USSR was a bullet.

Incidentally, The Death of Stalin is a pretty good movie - dark, dark comedy.

Judging from the complete clown-show that erupted, it's hard to imagine that anyone on the committee felt sure enough of the fallout of Stalin's death to enact any sort of plot.

My favorite line when Beria is being cremated .from Sectrary Molotov:

"There's flames in old Molotov yet!".

That's got to be one of the biggest **** yous in modern history. You're going to tell Stalin that?:boxedin:

Tito spent years as a leader of the Partisans in Yugoslavia, very effectively fighting the Nazis, who were also constantly trying to assassinate him (hence, why he so effectively thwarted would-be assassins). I don't think he was particularly scared of Stalin.

Comrade Mustard, in the Politburo with the hammer.

I think that was "with the sickle". They'd used the hammer* on Trotsky.

*It's mistakenly assumed to be an "ice pick" like various cosa nostra and black hand types would use (or Ice Pick Slim for that matter), but it's actual a mini pick-axe used by mountain climbers, thus ice pick(axe).

(Old commie/fourth international joke: How does the politburo now explain Trotsky's death? He was cleaning his ice pick and it went off.)

When war seemed imminent, Stalin said to Beria, ‘Comrade Lavrenti Pavlovich, whatever his betrayals, Trotsky is a first-rate military leader. We need to pick his brains for an answer to this dilemma.’

Beria took the command literally.

:blackcat:

Stalin himself.

He inspired so much fear to his "comrades" that none of them wanted to call a doctor by fear he could be accused to have tried to kill Stalin in case he would have survived.

And it is also why Beria was so quickly gotten rid of after Uncle Joe's death.

Well, let's see...
He smoked. He was old. Under his own expressed orders he wasn't to be disturbed under threat of punishment, and had been culling away all the competent doctors...
