Whitney Houston

In undergrad I got into a discussion with my friend Eric about what we would want for our eulogies. We finally agreed that we would want the director of the funeral to ask for a moment of silence for the attending to reflect on how we touched their lives... & a few seconds in having that one person "remember that time he/I made them laugh, they snort & someone else gets it & chuckles, & on & on until the place is filled with laughter.

I didn't know it at the time but he had sickle cell. He died a few weeks later. At the funeral, the preacher asked for a moment of silence. I was still in shock so I had forgotten about that discussion. After a few seconds I get a clear as day picture of Eric in my head & he says "that's your cue cupcake".
I responded with "BWAAAAHAHAHA!" Everybody got it, everybody laughed even his parents. Seemed like it went on for hours.

I still haven't thought of a better eulogy.

Beautiful.

I have found Cleese's <channeling Zoolander> eugooogily </channeling Zoolander> to be the model for my wake. There are videos of it on youtube. As a Hindu, our funeral and post death rituals carry on for atleast 10 days, if not a month. I want mine where my friends gather around in a decent pub and just remember the good times.

Oh come on Mr Complexity. It was some loss. She sang a couple of good songs and had a nice voice. She could have sung many more but now won't. She did not appear to be an evil or cruel person.

The World is smaller for her death.

Yes there was a lot of hype but it was not her fault.

When Bob Dylan shuffles off I'll be terribly upset because he is a couple of months older than I. :(

Nope, no loss to me. Didn't like her music, avoided it, am very averse to celebrity.

I'll miss Dylan (assuming I don't go first) because he had some good songs and helped The Band.

At least we agree on something. ;)

How about Leonard Cohen?

This lord fella wants us to snort blow?

My wife watched most of the funeral on TV and has spent hours on the phone talking to her friends about it.

If I was to say what I thought about the whole hypocritical, idiotic, lunatic process, our marriage would be in serious jeopardy.

If she was such a Lord Loving person, why the **** did God not do something positive for her in return and prevent her death at such a young age? :boggled:

God's Love. Spit. :whistling

I've heard of him, but have no idea why.

Most of my musical preferences run to Bach and earlier.

Never listened to many songs - I can't make out the words in most lyrics at all. I have a serious problem understanding speech against background noise.

The Band is great, especially Music from the Big Pink, but Leonard Cohen not so much.

Never liked the suicide blues.

My wife and I both like Cohen. Quirky, not much of a voice....Good songwriter.

As to Houston, I was hoping that now she's in the ground and all the endless bombardment of "I will always love you" would cease....Not yet.

For someone who isn't concerned, why do you spend all the effort telling us how much you don't care in multiple Whitney threads?

This is the second such thread. I posted in both that I don't see what all of the fuss is about. I get tired of idiots worshipping celebrities and say so.

Deal with it.

You should try something modern without lyrics:

Like Bach, only different.

Whacked by crack. RIP.

Heard on radio that her fans were buying her songs. If they were fans they would already have bought her music.
Being successful enabled her to go on and self destruct. Out of the love of celebs I will no longer let this happen and will only pirate music from now on. Warez the harm.
