I already debunked your claims of 'value' by asking where the shortage of lives was.

In fact, the planet is suffering greatly from *over*population, and it is an illogical and emotional bias to assert that the planet is better off just because someone or something saves lives.


In exactly the same way that it is an emotional attachment to claim that music and other forms of enjoyment make things 'better'.

The difference is, that other people aren't pretending that their emotional enjoyments are anything but that.

You on the other hand, are.

Anywhere were you can see that the artist really cares about what he or she is doing. In modern music you don't really see that. You don't see that a lot in older music either, when it comes to it.

Ought to be easy no? There are hundreds of these 'artists' active, at least some of them should care about what they do.

I don't really know much about the others, but John Lennon really didn't care about what he was doing. At least according to an interview with the man.

It begs the question though, what is 'modern' when it comes to the arts? A lot of people try to put some arbitrary number of years but can that really be accurate?

I never owned a Whitney Houston album but when I was growing up I was humming, whistling, and singing her songs before I even knew her name (I must have been about 10-12 when she was starting out). She was so huge in the 80s that I remember people complaining about how "old" her songs were before they'd even been out a year.

I haven't cared about her (except for the occasional laugh value, such as when SNL would do bits with fake, coked-up Whitney and Bobby visiting Weekend Update) for a long time but I still think it's a shame when someone with huge, influential talent dies young.
