Which Conspiracy Theories Do You Find LEAST Convincing?

I'll admit that when I was 17 I was totally convinced mumia was innocent. Mainly because rage against the machine and the beastie boys said so. I even had some of his books. I had one of them at school and another kid in my class said 'you know he's guilty right?'

At that point I decided to actually do a little bit if actual research. I flipped 180 degrees. I even found Daniel faulkners name at the police officer memorial when I was in DC fo spring break.

And yes, I'm such a dork that for my senior spring break I went to Washington dc with my parents instead of going to the beach like everyone else

I agree that the Mumia was framed routine is stupid, and I am amazed that otherwise intelligent people buy into it,but once again, it's just stupid, not nearly as batcrap crazy as a lot of the stuff out there.
What is upsetting is for many people the innocence of Mumia is not even a topic for discussion, but taken for granted.
If you want to argue that Mumia should not get the death penalty because the Death Penalty is wrong, fine, I can accept that although I don't agree. But to calim the Mumia was innocence in the face of all the evidence to the contrary is really stupid.
And I don't think anybody can do that good a job of framing.

The Mumiacs have subjected Officer Daniel Faulkners widow through almost 30 years of hell, too.

My list in roughly descending order.

1. The Nazis didn't mass murder Jews with Zyklon B in concentration camps during WW2.

I listed this first because it's the most offensive.

2. 9/11 was an inside job.

(Interestingly the above two were conspiracies… by the Nazis and Osama bin Laden, et al, respectively. There is no convincing evidence whatsoever that the fingered culprits didn't do the dirty deeds.)

3. The Apollo moon landings were a hoax.

Again this defies credibility. Those radio astronomers in England, Australia and other places not in the U.S. or in U.S. controlled territories were listing to something that went to the moon and back. (The Russkies were listening in, too, would they have let us get away with such a massive hoax?)

4. JFK and MLK were not killed by "lone gunmen." There was a wider conspiracy in both cases.

I've lumped these two together because the evidence against Lee Harvey Oswald and James Earl Ray though largely circumstantial in both cases is convincing. (Oddly, there don't seem to be very many proliferating JFK assassination CTs. I wonder why?)

These four are the least convincing in my mind because we know the truth in each case and we have strong evidence for the "official" versions. The more diffuse NWO/ Illuminati/Masonic world domination CTs fail for other reasons. I could go on but you can add to the list.

Your first entry would easily make my most disgusting list but I don't think I would have put it at the top of my least likely list.

For one thing, Holocaust deniers are considerably more sophisticated than truthers and some of their claims are either not easily proved to be wrong or on occasion they are factual. I think it is important to note here that "holocaust denier" as it is most commonly defined has some scope and a lot of "holocaust deniers" don't deny that the holocaust happened. They just argue for much lower numbers of deaths and other differences. I don't want this to inflame anybody. The facts are that the holocaust happened, the number of people killed was in the range of 12 million depending on exactly how one partitions the deaths between intentional murder and war deaths and about half of those were Jewish people. Anything I have said here is for the purposes of comparing the level of certainty of two CT's that are wildly unlikely to be true.

I would have put the 9-11 conspiracy theorists on the top of my list. I think it is reasonable to predict that conspiracy theories will develop around all major events but I would not have predicted a theory like this that doesn't have a smidgen of a common sense basis followed by an avalanche of contradictory data would have developed a following. There is not one equivocal argument that a truther makes where a reasonable informed person can see a shred of plausibility. Most conspiracy theories have unknowns that can be exploited to lend credence. This is a CT where every detail of significance is known to be counter to the theory. If there is such a thing as absolute knowledge we know to a certainty that the WTC was not brought down by controlled demolitions of any kind.

I also agree with another poster that the Kennedy assassination theory doesn't deserve to be fourth on the list. The evidence that Oswald was the lone shooter is very strong but in the world of crazy CT's this seems like an also ran to me.

I suppose the trouble with the premise of this thread is that there's nothing lower than zero, and so many of the theories mentioned simply have zero credibility. It's impossible to choose between them because they're all sitting there right on rock bottom.

ETA opps I posted before I got to widely believed. I'll leave it up anyway.

So it would be easier to convince you that (as some people believe) there is an alien base under the Denver airport and that site was chosen because the NWO plans to sink all land west of Colorado so that Denver will be on the Pacific Ocean?

Don't get me wrong. I believe that there is tons of evidence to support the systematic theft from, kidnapping of, and murder of millions of Jews. I am just saying the possibility of all that evidence being fabricated, however remote a possibility that is, is still more believable than aliens secretly controlling the world while being mysteriously compelled to tip their hand by putting up murals and plaques in a U.S. airport.

Rolfe.

But we can rank them according to how many nonsensical or flat-out physically impossible reasons they are not credible.

For example, 9/11 "vanilla" MIHOP is not credible in the least, however it has fewer incredible elements than the "theory" of demolition via radiation-less fallout-less mini-nukes.

Asides from the OP, HAARP and chemtrails, the least convincing ones to me are the FDR knew about the attack on Pearl Harbor in advance ones as well as the assorted pseudo-scientific ones like the Philidelphia Experiment, and anything connected with Tom Bearden. Gene Ray and Nancy Leider could also be mentioned, but most people accept that they are insane.

I have also had several people who are not normally given to CTs postulate that various professional sporting events, usually some form of a championship, are fixed by the tellevision networks.

Regarding that last one, the thread on likely conspiracy theories is thataway ---> :D

1)
2) Alien abduction - why highly technologically advanced space faring aliens would want to shove probes into the back passages of moonshine addled hillbillies is beyond me. Surely they'd just access data from a medical school?

Unless they just enjoy it. I guess there's different levels to technical sophistication :)

In fairness, though, some aliens have been questioning the necessity of anal probing earthlings. My view is that we should not be anally probed by extraterrestrials without our prior consent.

Moonshine is one of the big power ups in this game....

A lot of good cheesy fun with great music by Mojo Nixon.
Availble for download for Six Bucks at www.gog.com adapted to run on a modern computer.

Scatalogical aliens? With a toilet based humour? I'd never thought of that :) But why inbred, drunken, snaggle toothed 'sons of the soil'? In their shoes I'd stage a mass abduction at a swim wear catalogue shoot.

The NWO and the UN being some sort of shadow government. With the amount of times several nations say to the UN to go *** itself, you have to wonder if the NWO CT holds any basis..
