Just had a quick look to see what the current Google analytics report shows for visitors to the Forum:

1. Firefox 32.69%
2. Chrome 22.59%
3. Internet Explorer 22.04%
4. Safari 15.27%
5. Android Browser 3.51%
6. Opera 1.75%
7. Mozilla Compatible Agent 0.87%
8. Opera Mini 0.58%
9. Mozilla 0.15%
10. IE with Chrome Frame 0.14%

Chrome for me, plus Android browser.

I did use IE a couple of weeks ago.

I'd bought Mrs Moon a new netbook and was setting it up, so I used IE......to download Chrome.

I wonder how many people only ever use it to download a new browser?

Then again, it's still fairly popular, going by Darat's figures above.

Another Planet X browser is called Flock.

Since Terry has Firefox on my computer set to open automagically to some of his stuff, and I have Chrome set up for me, if I want to see something in neutral mode, every now and then I'll use IE.

Firefox. Don't know what I'd do without Adblock or NoScript. I recently pulled up a regular site I visit in IE and was horrified that nearly 50% of the screen was ads!

Not sure I'd ever bother with Chrome. Google is great and all, but I'd rather not feel like I'm being logged at all times.

Firefox just updated itself today when I started it, and I can already see a difference with scrolling. Smoother for some reason. I intend to check out Flash and streaming video to see if there are any problems.

I hate to appear obtuse, but why doesn't everybody just use Internet Explorer??

Hi Bryan. I started using Firefox because I needed the Flashblock addon to play a myminicity building game. I found that addon so handy that I've kept using browsers that have it.

I'm not sure, but I don't think IE has such addons.

Not everybody uses Windows, which is what Internet Explorer works on.
Different browsers have different features.
For a long time, Internet Explorer was terrible and so people used other browsers and stuck with them.
Internet Explorer still has the stigma from its prior terribleness.

Difficult. I voted Safari, as this is my standard choice on both my Mac and the iPad, but I use others as well. Firefox, as it is much more customizable with special plug-ins. Chrome for its own flash. Not sure how to count "use most".

On the iPad, how would you characterize special apps that grab content from the web and display it their own way? Are they browsers or not? Most offer a shortcut to use the Safari/webkit engine to display the content in a browser-like fashion. Would this count as a browser, and then, which one?

Safari on my MacBook and iPhone. Works fine for me.

IE at work (compulsory) but they have FireFox as well. But for that you have to navigate through some submenu's in the Start menu.

And the Browser thingy on my BlackBerry from work.

I almost forgot - I use WebOS browser as well.

I'm one of the folks who got a cheapo firesale HP Touchpad last year.

I have IE 9 on my Windows 7 laptop, along with Firefox (which I use as the default), and Chrome. On the iMac at home, I use Firefox as the default, and also have Safari and again Chrome. I like Firefox as my default because it has proven a good, solid browser. I use the others for certain purposes once in a while, but FF is my choice if I was forced to pick only one.

I have no bone to pick with Microsoft, and as far as I'm concerned, IE is a perfectly capable browser for anything I'm likely to do with it. I just understand that it has had more security issues than the others have. Which is what sold me first on FF.

Internet Explorer used to be awful. I think Microsoft tried to redefine some standards and the rest of the Internets said "**** off Microsoft you can't own the internet".

The latest couple of versions are quite reasonable, I'm told. I haven't used them.

There's a very noticeable speed difference for page loads with different browsers.

IE has never been the fastest.

I use Google maps quite a bit at work. A single tick of the mouse wheel to change zoom levels varies from being near instant with Chrome to taking 2-4s with IE for the screen to update.

Mapping ~125 locations and moving them among 8 tabs to build delivery routes using IE is a truly frustrating experience. Chrome handles it with ease.

On PCs, I use Chrome these days.

On Android, I use Dolphin HD on my phone, and the default browser on my Touchpad.

Over the years, I've avoided IE whenever possible (even though it's been the officially supported one at work), and I've used Mosaic, Mozilla, Opera, Netscape and Firefox. I've switched to Chrome because it seemed a lot faster and cleaner than Firefox had become.

Me too, though I rarely use WebOS on them. :)

Anyone who reads the Computer sub-forum knows I will probably bring up the fact that Firefox is still running two lines of browsers.

They have the old 3.X line that they update regularly (at least once a month since the split) and the new line that was split off which is on version 13 or something now...

Newest version of the 3 line can always be found here: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

They want people to use the new one so they say the 3 line is "out of date" and "older" but in reality they still update it about monthly and it still works with all the new updates of No Script and related add-ons.

I believe they do this because certain businesses needed to keep the 3.X functionality.
