Ugh. John Gibson's commentary on Madame Tussaud's controversial nativity scene featuring celebrities and President Bush as one of the wise men.

Commentary

I suspect that this is another example of the Euro secularists getting their digs in at religion, not in a spirit of fun, but a mean spirit of making fun of an important religious moment: the birth of Christ

As a not very active religionist, this has always puzzled me. Why can't people who don't believe, or don't believe very much, just leave believers alone? Why is there lately an antagonistic spirit exhibited against people who practice Christianity?

I suspect it's because the people who are on the attack are mainly aiming at the bin Ladens of the world, whose religious beliefs include killing all of us.

But, it is evidently just too much for these frightened and quaking agnostics and atheists to separate Christianity from the bloody sword wing of Islam. So, in fairness to the Muslims they don't know, or like and don't trust, they feel they must pillory the Christians too.

There's a bit of this going on in Cupertino (search), California, where "Hannity & Colmes" are doing their program Wednesday night on the school principal who won't let students see the Declaration of Independence because it mentions God.

I don't know about you, but all this gives me the creeps. What's wrong with just leaving the believers alone, unless they're coming at you with murderous intentions?

Yeah, the poor Christians are being picked on. And it's all a result of those violent muslims and cowering atheists! Sheesh. He's not paying very much attention to events in the US lately, is he?

I guess as long as Christians aren't actively trying to murder us, we should just sit back and allow creationism to be taught in public schools, the ten commandments to be posted in government buildings, gays to continue to be vilified and oppressed, and tax money spent on faith-based initiatives.

No one feels that creationism should be taught in schools except the far right fundies. If it is taught, it should be taught from the perspective of several religions as a contrast to evolution, not a replacement. Evolution is pretty much a slam dunk, even though it is referred to as a theory, and it is not necessarily in complete conflict with creationism.

I don't see any problem with the Ten Commandments being displayed in a courthouse. US law is based on Judeo-Christian philosophy / principles.

For me, I'd rather not have my hard-earned tax dollars (every one of which says "In God We Trust" on it) spent trying to make a minority of the population feel "comfortable". Litigation is more expensive than a few statues.

Aw ****, you make me click on Fox News.

Saw the scene, really funny. Bush as a Wise Man and a Spice girl as an angel. Way over the top!

Who is Fox kidding????? Christianity invented MISSIONARY and CRUSADE.

Our friendly local fundy Christian church collects lots of donations so they can send missionaries to the poor and hungry in Tibet and convert them to Jesus.

Sadly, you're wrong. A poll in the current issue of Newsweek finds that:

"Sixty-two percent say they favor teaching creation science in addition to evolution in public schools; 26 percent oppose such teaching, the poll shows. Forty-three percent favor teaching creation science instead of evolution in public schools; 40 percent oppose the idea."

Read that carefully. 43% favor teaching creation science INSTEAD OF evolution in public schools.

The US is on the verge of stupiding itself out of being a world power.

Care to back this up? Exactly which Judeo-Christian principles are the basis for US law?

And I'd rather not have MY tax dollars spent building monuments to other people's superstitions. It's not about being "comfortable". It's about doing the right thing. It's about upholding the Constitution. It's about freedom, baby!

Bill O'Reilly can see this assault on Christmas and references it every December (see "Talking Points memo" for December 9, 2004).

. . . . . . . .

If that's Jesus in the manger, why does the Virgin Mary still look pregnant?
