When morons breed...

And though malice was apparently not necessary to throw this young couple behind bars forever, I find it utterly unreasonable that they could be sentenced thus.

No malice, and yet they are thrown in prison for life.

Is that reasonable?

In the circumstances of this case, and the extent of recklessness (or worse) shown, yes.

So you see no problem with sexual abuse, parental abuse, mental abuse, starving your children, feeding your children poison...

I could go down the list. You really think that parents can treat their children however they want? No exceptions?

Well, now I know: You have no right to call anything in our legal system disgusting. Your legal (and moral) views are more disgusting than I could have ever dreamed.

I'm against that, obviously.

No.

Whatever.

So you're against the starving of children, but you're ok with what these parents did...

As a human being, why do you feel ignorance of proper child rearing should be punishable by life imprisonment?

They weren't sentenced to a life sentence for ignorance of proper child rearing. They were sentenced to life because they were convicted of premeditated murder.

I asked you as a human being. Kindly explain as a human being, and mot a lawyer.

I'm a human being and not a lawyer, so let me try.

This couple gave birth to a child. A very small child, but not everyone knows the average size of babies. They then chose to feed the infant on a diet of soy milk and apple juice. You suggested earlier that they couldn't read, but then, how would they know that they're buying soy milk?

In a very short time, the child was thin to the point of showing bones through the skin. I can't think of a non-anorexic person who would see that as positive. At that point, the child was also ill and they failed to seek out any kind of medical care for the infant. No asking for housecalls, hell, they didn't even go to an alternative practitioner. It's bunk, but it would have shown effort on their part. Instead, they basically allowed the child to die.

As a human being, I find this to be atrocious. To act with such recklessness and disregard so as to lead to harm or death is wrong. You can't moralize away the consequences of your actions or inactions because you never intended harm. The degree of wrongness does vary when intent is factored in, but it does not change that what was done was wrong.

Well said, sir.

As a parent of young children, I find the couple's actions beyond comprehension unless malice is involved. These is not a simple mistake. And it wiped out a human life.

Work it out. It's a low german language mutually intelligible to English, spoken by around 2.5m people.

They were unobsrevant.

I never understood the idea that ignorant people were responsible for their ignorance. In their own minds they did the best thing they could. Because they weren't better informed, they must go to jail for ever.

I don't understand this view of humanity.
