My understanding is that you can't vaccinate newborns, so they depend on the herd immunity until they're old enough for each vaccination.

Yes they rely on the same herd immunity that makes the anti-vaxxers so brave as to not have their children vaccinated. Real brave...real parasites.

Sorry, a little touchy on this subject these days, and Oprah, who I admire for many things, has lost it on this one.

See this is the problem with modern medicine, people bond with newborns because they expect them to live. If we had natural rates of infant mortality this wouldn't be seen as a big deal.

The point is true, that 150 years ago this would not be seen as a tragety because it was so common you would expect it. As infant mortality decreases people expect their babies to live all the time, so it becomes more of a tragety when they don't.

She already had space on Oprah's site. Now it's going to be in our faces on TV too. Whaaahoooooo!!!

I had to make cupcakes for Evan to go to his friend's birthday party. I had to make them because Evan is Gluten free and Casein free (I have to make sure cupcakes he can eat go with him to birthday parties).

So, I just jumped in the car and ran to Whole Foods to find some more alternatives to sugar. This all stemmed from not having any jelly on my gluten-free toast this morning, and then for lunch I couldn't use any ketchup on my turkey meatballs because, guess what, there's sugar in ketchup too! I found sugar-free ketchup called Nature's Hollow and sugar-free jelly from the same company. Woo-hoo! I also found some corn flakes that were fruit-juice sweetened.

I want to stab myself in the eye until it stops hurting. Thank you Jenny.

This, right here, is why we need to remind people of why celebrities are famous, constantly. Not celebrities as a whole, but specific individuals. So, any time she wants to speak in a public forum, there needs to be a 30-60 second intro reminding people that the ONLY reason anyone knows who she is, is because she took her clothes off for money 15 years ago.* And Jim Carrey, when he appears with her, should have some outtakes of his early days on In Living Color. Followed by some sort of warning: "Please remember, these are the reasons that these individuals are qualified to speak, they have no education or training on any subject beyond what was just shown." they then get 5 minutes, tops, before the clip is shown again. Also, before and after every commercial break.

*Please note this is in no way disparaging anyone who does take their clothes off for money. I fully support such things. However, please do not think that because people pay attention to you after you've taken your clothes off, that it somehow validates your opinions on ANYthing, other than "how to look good with my clothes off." Likewise, it does not invalidate your opinion on anything. The two have nothing to do with one another.

Oprah continues to amaze. And yet, I'm not surprised anymore. Anything that makes someone FEEL like they're doing a good thing, regardless of whether it really is, she supports. As long as you feel like you're helping, then you must be, right?

And frankly , it has reached the point where Showbiz celebs taking up causes has become a major turn off for me,even when I support the cause they are supporting.
I wonder if the image of the "Hollywood Democrat" was a reason why the Dems were in the political wilderness for so many years. Having Rich Hollywood celebs as spokesman for the party is really goint to help with the Blue collar workers.....

Yeah. This is not a surprise. However, it is more dangerous than the "secret", and will put more people at risk than Dr. Phil has. I don't know of any antivaxxers that Dr. Phil has had on his show, but I know of other quacks he promoted that claimed to cure things like ADHD (that promoted using things like applied kinesiology).

Thing is, this could give the stopjenny.com a steady stream of junk to debunk...

Madness beyond infinity. Oprah needs to be held responsible for what is going to happen next. I knew something like this was going to happen, and I HATE how bad it actually really is!!!

Yeah, I don't care if this is a slippery slope argument, but Oprah is supporting this, and we all KNOW that this will only mean a show about how Americans should shun anything slightly "mainstream" and "sciency". Stand up against reason, logic, and evidence and start up those google-based educations! Homeopaths, unethical MDs (Jay Gordon et al), and naturopaths are salivating over how their coffers will overflow from all the GRAND advice McCarthy will give the masses!!!

Media based education is what we have now. And celebrities know everything that is good for you. Don't listen to the evil pharma backed MDs that are poisoning your kids, just buy junk off of the net and cleanse away!!!

Ok this is clearly not my field, but I have to say I'm a bit skeptical so first of all correct me if I'm wrong or if I don't have the full premise clear: Is Oprah an authority for banning vaccines nationwide?
