What was operation gladio

Well, speaking only for former Czechoslovakia,we had only few military events.(Rest of them was done by KGB-like organisation)
First was corruption, which allowed weapons to be carried out of armory.(?Machineguns as well!)

Second was 1968-invasion to "save" communism.

Of course the Soviet side did do the same or worse, up to and including physical invasion of uppity states trying to be too free. I forget how often this happened, but at least twice in a big way - Czechoslovakia and Hungary, plus surely some smaller operations, like in the Baltics, etc. There's nothing I've seen about a NATO invasion of any W European countries, like France on its withdrawal.

And last altough not directly affecting citizens was training terrorists.(especially arabs/muslims) Sadly no known source for this.(in english for sure)
I wouldn't be totally surprised - training terrorists then may've happened on both sides.

Even if americans tried they would be behind soviet and eastern block.
However there were some quite cinteresting small events, like when Irqa-Iran war erupted, iranian students were often spies watching iraqis...

Can you elaborate on that? Sounds interesting.

Just wanted to address a point wrt to translation issues. Earlier in the thread I quoted Italian SID director Vito Miceli - arrested in 1974 for suspicion of subversive plotting, in connection with the aborted Borghese coup (Tora Tora) of Dec, 7 1970. I had him telling the Judge about Gladio, which was involved in the coup but left unnamed:
A Super SID on my orders? Of course! But I did not organise the coup d'état myself. It was the United States and NATO who asked me to do it!
That's from a Ganser PDF, I think the least accurate version. Makes it sound like the US and NATO ordered the coup. Ganser's actual book and most other sources have it thus:
A Super SID on my orders? Of course! But I have not organized it myself to make a coup d'etat. This was the United States and NATO who asked me to do it!
This makes more sense - the super SID, not the coup, is what's being talked about.

I recently bought a second book, "Stefano Delle Chiaie, Portrait of a Black Terrorist" by Stuart Christie, an interesting character. A lot of the same info was available to Christie when his book was published in 1984, six years before the Gladio networks were revealed. It's almost like reading Ganser with NATO mentioned less. Anyway, I think Christie offers the best translation of Miceli:
A super-secret SID acting on orders from me? Fair enough, but I never set it up for the purpose of mounting a coup d’etat; I did so at the request of the Americans and NATO.

Can you elaborate on that? Sounds interesting.

Not that much. Why they were regarded as spies was due to their absolute inability to draw anything(technical drawings) and that they were seen close to iraqis. (Eval of their abilities by their teacher who was teaching at university departement for foreing students - technical drawing and czech language)

So unfortunately no direct evidence. It was never officialy documented.
However they had to be chosen for studies and quality of their abilities hint that they were selected for different reason. (Side note:iraqis were said to be quite good...)
