What To Do About Iran?

The mullahs have been doing everything they can to undermine Ahmadinejad. A president willing to stand down and engage them in negotiations could only help that process along.
The Mullahs don't need to "undermine" Ahmadinejad they could disappear him with impunity. He serves at their pleasure.

Israel Cries Wolf
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/09/opinion/09iht-edcohen.html

“Iran is the center of terrorism, fundamentalism and subversion and is in my view more dangerous than Nazism, because Hitler did not possess a nuclear bomb, whereas the Iranians are trying to perfect a nuclear option.”

Benjamin Netanyahu 2009? Try again. These words were in fact uttered by another Israeli prime minister (and now Israeli president), Shimon Peres, in 1996. Four years earlier, in 1992, he’d predicted that Iran would have a nuclear bomb by 1999. You can’t accuse the Israelis of not crying wolf. Ehud Barak, now defense minister, said in 1996 that Iran would be producing nuclear weapons by 2004 ... more

Since those predictions were made, a lot of effort has gone into slowing or stopping Iran's development of nuclear weapons.

I think there's a huge difference between crying "I'm being attacked by a wolf right now!" (which is the traditional, canonical example of "crying wolf"), and crying "I might be attacked by a wolf sometime next week!" (and then taking steps to prevent or avoid such an attack).

But far be it from a mainstream media editorialist to make such a nuanced distinction...

indications or evidence of Iran actually building an A-Bomb rather than just having Nuclear energy would give some credibility to the one crying "wolf"

I would go a step further: Iran having a bomb would not mean Israel is in danger anyway. It would only mean Iran is not to be messed with in the future.

Exactly. Neither Israel nor the US would love to see Iran in a position where it is significantly harder to militarily kick Iran's ass whenever they want to. In other words, it would be a great risk to fly into Iran and destroy something you don't like.

that would be a violation of the NPT.

Also true. And I have no Idea what kinds of punishments could apply to Iran in this case.
