I was wondering if anyone has come face to face with this woman and what her mannerisms are and such. I wonder how bad she really is when doing readings to people in an audience.. any help would be greatly appreciated

Yes. I was a minister for Sylvia Browne, sad to say. As far as doing readings for an audience, the description you gave of John Edward and his protege would seem to fit Sylvia Browne well too.

I saw her perform in person. She can be shockingly rude and cruel at times but she can also behave like a normal human being...and, I have to say, she has moments of good humor and affection and can actually be nice enough, too.

Then, I believe people said the same thing of Hitler and Stalin.

LOL!
Sylvia Browne is simply one of many bad grifters who through the gullibility of the weak minded and flat out foolish has been able to carve out a living off her B...S...

Comparing such a non note worthy person as Sylvia Browne to Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin only serves to insult the lives and deaths of the many millions of victims under the rule of both tyrannical leaders.

You misunderstand. I analyzed my impressions of her behavior from having seen her in person. I said she actually wasn't entirely hateful, often did nothing particularly bad and actually had moments of good cheer- and then I explained why that isn't necessarily a redeeming characteristic.

Mmm? But after all that you still compared Sylvia Browne to Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin.

There can be no misunderstanding of that. It is right there in your post.

One thing I have noticed about the main Browne posters on this site is they all seem to wear very thick blinders.
Sylvia Browne just isn't that important to anyone concerning anything.

Perhaps a five millionth thread about how wrong Sylvia Browne is about yet another one of her predictions is needed to help clarify your point?

Agreed.

I'll delete my explanatory example...

Alex.

I disagree. I think she is VERY important to the people who place their financial futures in her hands, to the people who follow up on her useless "leads" on their missing or murdered loved ones, and to those she dispenses medical advice to who take it. She's not only important to many people, she can be downright dangerous.

If you can't see this take off YOUR horse blinders.

Uh ... no, she didn't and no it isn't.

She evaluated the validity of an argument by comparing it to a similar argument that has much of the same structure but shows the conclusion to be wrong.

"[X] cannot be all that bad, because of the good qualities (1), (2) and (3)."

If the argument is invalid for Hitler and Stalin then it is invalid for Sylvia. There is no comparison being made between the three cases, though.

I misread the title of this thread and thought that either Browne had gone to jail or that she had a much larger inmate following than expected. :)

Another point I want to make about Browne: sometimes she actually does tell people good and sensible things that might actually help them. Yep, really, sometimes she does. And sometimes she says things that neither help or harm. And sometimes she says things that might only mildly harm.

For example, when I saw her perform in person, she told a woman whose son committed suicide that he didn't go to hell/come back as a lower life form because he was mentally ill and it wasn't his fault he committed suicide.

That's, ok, a pretty sensible thing to say to a grieving person. It might have brought the woman comfort and helped her and the other survivors in their loss.

However, the harm she does (like messing in murder/missing person's cases) far outweighs any help and comfort she might bring (like actually giving people good advice once in a while), anything she says that is neither particularly good or bad (telling an adult their spirit guide's names are Marsha and Jones) or anything that only mildly harms (like telling parents that their childrens' imaginary friends are actually their spirit guides and that Johnny and Jane can see them because they are "more in tune with the spirit world" because they are children.)

In fact, if she only inserted herself into a missing person's case once a year or so and if 98 percent of her doings were the other things, I'd still say it wasn't worth it and the bad would still outweigh any good that might come out of it.

Pointing to anything smart or neutral or only mildly bad she says is like pointing to the fact that Hamas does some very fine charity work (they do) and pointing out that they don't always fight their neighbors by convincing a confused teenage boy to kill himself by strapping a bomb to himself, going to a nightclub or bus, blowing himself up and, along with himself, mass murdering some teenage boys and teenage girls that neither he or his bosses have ever met in their lives.

And no, I did not compare Sylvia Browne to Hamas and do not think that Sylvia Browne is on par with Hamas.
