Ok, so we have elections this Sunday. I have a terrible problem, I don't know what to vote. Please help me by putting your intuition to work. What you see above are the symbols of the 6 major political parties in Greece. You don't have to know their positions or ideology since it wouldn't make it any clearer for you (believe me, I know). Just pick one.

If you can't decide spoil your balot. Whatever you don't not turn up.

I liked the ones with the rectangles--looked like money, and I'm willing to be paid off for my vote. :D

Actually you can identify the politics of one of the parties pretty easily.

I was going to post a similar comment but you beat me to it. KKE makes itself pretty obvious.

I've heard that even many "conservative" groups in Europe would be considered "leftist" by American standards.

Sorry, androids aren't allowed to vote yet.

"Dirty Spacer, do you hear?" :D

Ok, let's try to work out the symbols using ignorance and intuition. From the top.....

Green party,
conservatives,
communist,
socialist,
eat more fresh fruit,
liberals,
planet X.

I vote eat more fresh fruit.

I picked the second one down, the one with a torch.

I don't know how it is in Greece, but if it is like here, the safest thing to do is assume that they are all dishonest, lying weasels (sure there MIGHT be a politician who doesn't fit this description, but I have yet to see him) so just hold your nose, pick the least offensive candidate, then go home and take a shower. It's what I have to do every time we have an election

ÐAÓOK - reject, too busy, outdated style to this American's eys
NEA ÄHMOKPATIA 0- reject, best aesthetics but too much like an airline logo
KKE - reject, 2nd best aesthetics but connection to ideology that has caused more human misery and death than all other ideologies put together caused me some concern.
ÓYNAÓÐIÓMOÓ - reject, way too ugly, i couldn't relate to any political philosophy that could choose this as their logo
ÄHKKI - reject, nice aesthetics, but too cutesy, for me.
ËAOÓ - accepted, wasn't too keen on aesthetics, but it looks business like and it suggests party is serious about doing a good job.

Fresh fruit! LOL!

I thought it was the "buttcrack party". It looks like a buttcrack to me anyway. Hmmmm... perhaps I'm a tad disturbed.

Heh. About as much relevant information as any nation gets.

I go for ?HKKI. It has the best aesthecs.

LOL

This is a filthy political party of socialist peasants that could have been involved in a BJ scandal ( I don't know if we are allowed to type the word blow job in full so I type it like that). They want to present themselves as the political equivalent of the Democrats in USA. They are not trustworthy, they are thieves and liars.

They are socialists.

edited to add: Yes I was Jedi Knight. :p

Nikk :

Green party/ Nope. This is the Socialist Regime
conservatives/Yes
communist/Yes, how did you tell? :p
socialist/Eurocommunists
eat more fresh fruit/ emmm... socialists
liberals/Extreme right, didn't you notice the christian cross?
planet X./This country is planet X, anyway

I vote eat more fresh fruit.

Are you ashamed to admit that you would vote for the socialists or the eurocommunists, right? :p

Today is the big day. I still haven't decided, but I have 6 more hours to think it over :D

I'll tell you what the parties (maintain they) are:

The first one are the socialists. They've been the goverment since 1981, barring a 3-year period. We've been sitting on that burning sun for quite a long time :D

The second one is the other big party. They are the conservatives. According to the polls they will probably win but not easily. 4 years ago they though they had won when the first results were out, but then slowly and tortutously the socialists were going up and they finally won. The conservatives had been the goverment for about 3 hours :D

Basically these two big parties are exactly the same as far as their positions are concerned. To the point that they accuse each other of stealing their programs. It's ridiculous.

The 3rd one is the communist party as you all guessed. It has a rather stable percentage of 5-6%, and it is unique in that it probably is the only nontrivial communist party in the EU that is actually against the EU. Because it maintains so radically different positions, many people vote it just for a loud protest, not because they believe in communism.

The 4th one are the romantic lefties. The lefties with a European perspective and artistic, intellectual reflections. They are the party of intellectuals, poets, romantic students, etc. You get the idea. They are always struggling to get 3% which is the limit to enter the parliament. Polls show they'll be struggling again.

The 5th one is just an offshoot of the big bad socialists. Its leader formed it because the big bad socialists had become conservatives and forgot about the people and the social care nature that a socialist state should preserve. The symbol is not a "fresh fruit" or a "buttcrack", it's just a bird flying towards the sun :D

The 6th one is the extreme right wing party, with the usual positions of extreme rightists: Immediate expelling of illegal immigrants, harsh punishment of corruption, high religious tones etc. An observant beholder could have guessed it since its symbol derives from the Greek flag; a white cross on a blue background.

The last two parties according to the polls will not reach the magic 3%, but you never know, Greek voters are known to be highly unpredictable :)

When it comes to the Eurocommunists something happens in me and I get wild.

I don't see them like that. I see them as those who are ashamed to admit they are socialists and they have taken big positions in the public sector.

I am paying them with my taxes in order they enjoy their privileges as advisors or board members of public organizations.

I don't know any eurocommunist who works in the private sector.

...and with the above info, one can guess with amazing certainty what Cleopatra voted (I had already known it, even without the above info :D)

You have to maintain political corecteness, my dear. They don't call themselves "communists" and they have the right of self-identification :D
