Back in the 80’s when I was a Senior Laboratory Technician in an engineering lab, I use to get a lot of scientific and technical periodicals for free. Most of the technical periodicals wre just advertising vehicles but sometimes had decent articles. One of my (none advertisement) favorites was “NASA Tech Briefs”, although the articles were sometimes hard to follow unless you had specific knowledge of that technical application. I also enjoyed a weekly newsmagazine called “Science News” although the articles were somewhat brief it did give you a good synopsis of what was developing (I do not know if it is still being published). I also had a subscription to “Scientific American” (I had to pay for that) which I also enjoyed until it just became too expensive.
Recently my niece sent me a fund raising thing for her school where I could order magazines at a discount and help the school. I ordered both “Scientific American” and “Popular Science”. I Just got my first issue of “Scientific American” and it was everything I remember but about half the number of pages.
Which brings us to the purpose of this thread, what scientific or technical periodicals or websites (or other resources) do you use or enjoy and why? Also which ones don’t you find so fulfilling and why?
I regularly check some science news websites but do not have those links on this computer and will provide them later. Whenever I need to refresh my memory about a physics concept or study something new I go to Hyperphysics. It is a resource I regularly use and wholeheartedly recommend.
