What is the connection between Rodriguez and Randi?

I've read several posts on this forum regarding WTC conspiracy theories, and I am led to believe that most of the posters on this forum are level-headed and rational, making good criticisms of the conspiracy theories. James Randi, who founded JREF, also has the reputation for rational investigation of claims. So, how is it that Randi's former assistant, William Rodríguez, is working completely the other way on the WTC conspiracy theories, doing his best to feed them? His claims about WTC are ridiculous, such as his claim that he could tell from his location in a WTC Tower basement that a bomb had detonated just moments before the aircraft struck the building above him.

Who knows, maybe he just likes attention.

It appears that Rodriguez mostly dropped out of Trutherism after his sponsor, Jimmy Walter dropped out. It must have been nice while it lasted, being on tour, paid for by a rich nitwit who squandered much of his inheritance.

Willie's spoken about this over at Screw Loose Change. He says some of the statements he made were in haste, and that he ending up signing something he didn't read first.

He doesn't believe any of the 9/11 troofer stuff now.

Translation:

He can't make a buck off it anymore.

I cannot remember where I read it, but a few months ago I remember seeing that Rodriguez had flipped, yet again, to the official story line. Suffice to say, he now says it was jet fuel, not bombs (like he did at the beginning, before he saw $$ is a bs story).

Yes, I knew Willy Rodriguez well for many years. He worked many shows with me, but there was never an employer/employee relationship. We have visited often since, and we met recently in NYC. He has now joined the WTC conspiracy crowd, and we disagree on his observations and his conclusions on that matter. I value Willy as a good friend.
That answers the OP.

After Mark Robert's presentation at TAM 5.5 Randi in effect said that the JREF had 'lost a friend' wrt Willie.

he's been apparently regular member here at jrefers since about the beginning, that is precisely 912 2001.
