What kills me that the main poster I was conversing with was a teacher. Of kids. It really concerns me that she is passing this crap along.

All conspiracy theorists argue from a position of faith, despite what they say. Same as creationists etc.

This seems to be an almost defining trait of conspiracy theorists (along then stupidity and paranoia), the idea that the debate isn't about the truth, but about winning. To them an argument is something you win in the same way you win a tennis match. If at the end of the day you've frustrated your opponent enough to make them walk away in the disgust, then in their minds that's a "win," truth be damned.

I mean for sure in almost all cases, short of rhetorical devices like hypotheticals and being a devil's advocate and such, a person in an argument wants to convince the other person of their point of view, after all that is why pretty much why anyone argues a point, but for most people its tempered by a want to uncover the truth, not just about "winning."
 
Yesterday, I had a similar, disappointing 'discussion' with a chiropracter on someone's Facebook page. It ended when he called me an idiot.
