This got lost in the heated microspheres debate, so I'm asking it off to the side;

I recently became aware that some toners have black iron oxide as their coloring agent; I had thought that iron for this purpose had gone out in the middle ages.

What happens when paper printed with this toner burns? Has anybody considered this?

I think a LOT of paper burned that day.

Could this be the source of the microspheres?

You know some papers have considerable sulphur in them...

Same thing that happens when paper NOT printed burns. I'll tell you just as I said to Apollo when he first brought up this idiocy. In a fire (ALL FIRES) there are tons of chemical reactions and not one of them are anything whatsoever to get all bent out of shape about.

Micro spheres from fly ash are used in print toners for printing bank documents including bonds.

This has already been addressed in another thread, interestingly just burning paper will create micro spheres from iron chloride and Aluminum chloride in the paper as mordants to hold he paper together.

Thanks! I missed that part of the discussion. :)
