What Evidence Would Be Sufficient To Prove Reincarnation?

In her book "Spook, Science Tackles the Afterlife", Mary Roach profiles an Indian researcher who admittedly wants desperately to prove reincarnation. He's investigated hundreds of cases and interviewed large numbers of people with "past life" memories.
Alas, even though he's a devout Hindu, he's also a trained scientist and his academic discipline makes him approach these cases with rigor.
He's not found a single one credible...
Are you refering to Dr. Kirti Rawat here?
I've googled the name and it seems to me that he claims to have found evidence for reincarnation. Google for the following:
I've 500 proven cases of reincarnation: Dr K S Rawat

Zombie Thread!!! Reincarnation exists!!!

Here's an amusing quote from one of Dr Kirti Rawat's colleagues:

Also speaking at the program, Swami Anand Arun, coordinator of Osho Tapoban said scientific information on reincarnation exists, but many Christian societies try to suppress this information as it goes against their religion.

Linky

We might need to add Christianity to the list of things these people are completely wrong about.

I've got evidence for reincarnation. It's the dog poop I picked up in my yard this morning.

It was produced by my dog, who is the reincarnation of John Belushi, who was in Animal House with Kevin Bacon.

I didn't say it was conclusive evidence.

But it is stronger than a lot of evidence for reincarnation.

All I wanted to say was that Bikewer's quote was misleading because it implied that Rawat had done proper research and found nothing. This may well be the case, but it certainly isn't Rawat's opinion, what the quote was implying to me.

You know what this entire thing reminds me of?

That was fun. :)

I have to say, everyone involved in these escapades looked happy, and they all seemed to be having a good time. But this is a big part of what makes it so hard to take any research that could possibly relate to the field of reincarnation with any degree of seriousness. Genuine evidence would really have to go the extra mile to impress me, and I just have not seen that yet. I'm not going to say that it doesn't exist, because I don't have the knowledge I would need to have to make a claim like that. But if there was ever a case of extraordinary claims needing extra evidence, needing to go above and beyond, this is it.

Great. You've just made Rramjet very upset.

I went over to that thread, looked at three pages, and... you know, that was enough. :eye-poppi Here, everyone is at least discussing an identifiable subject.

Sheesh, I unexpectedly read through this whole thread.

I do get frustrated that Pixy Misa is so right, and yet millions if not billions of people believe in reincarnation, probably including many otherwise skeptics.

To some extent religion poisons everything: we often look for one white crow among the black to confirm a hope that our beliefs are true - but the reality is a huge industry called religion, tirelessly dedicated to manufacturing proof of white crows, or better yet 'white crows'. With this comes power and influence for many people who would otherwise need to find a real job.

One thing I think might be a misconception - Reincarnation is not necessiarly about belief in migration of souls, but is more tied into belief in a shared consiousness or pantheism.

To that view, a brain is a unique receiver/transmitter/computer that manifests the "self" as a physical, visible part of this great cloud of common consiousness. When you die, your MAC address is freed up, and your self is available to manifest itself in another brain. With proper care of your operating system your next life manifestation will be a Mac Powerbook rather than a Windows Netbook.

It is really easy to hijack technology and science ideas to promote woo.

Funny how we as a society always think that our most recent technological advance is the perfect model for the human brain.

Back in the late 1800's, it was the telegraph system.

When you die, the hieroglyphs of your soul are liberated from the stone tablet whereupon they were previously engraved, free to migrate to other, similar tablets churned out by the great quarry of common consciousness. With proper polishing, perhaps your next incarnation will be on a marble placate instead of a granite slab.

When you die, your dilithium crystals splinter. Sometimes, the Great Engineer will be able to manufacture the shards into a new crystal.

The Great Engineer will be able to obtain anything he needs. His only fault is a tendency to exaggerate the time needed for repairs by a factor of four.
