Someone posted an addy of a youtube video that had a Jewish gentleman describing a dream or a vision of an angel with eyes all over the place. Could you repost the video? I want to show it to my Mormon friend.

Mormon angels are either blond or redheaded with white robes and a sword on their hip. They are tall and grim with steely blue eyes.

Cathlic anges tend to be darker and have gay expressions. I think angels look like young curvy foxy womenn but they aren't in heaven.

This isn't the video you're thinking of, but it does show that the many-eye thing is supported by the Bible. (It's a Thunderf00t video, so it's good.)

That was me, Cainkane. Oh boy. I'll see if I can hunt it down. I don't even recall what I was searching for that day.

Ok thanks. I want to show that video to the Mormon who says angels are beings of light.

Did you ask the Mormon this question: Since when does light fit the description, "blond or redheaded with white robes and a sword on their hip. They are tall and grim with steely blue eyes."?

I've never heard of red-headed photons carrying swords. Is that one of those quantum things like quarks with charm?

Ok, here it is. Let me warn you this is a 7 part series. Part 1 describes his experience in the hospital and part 2 is where is talks about the angels.

Anyone who is interested in cross-cultural near-death experiences might find this worth watching. That's actually how I happened on it - I am often looking for cross-cultural accounts like this.

Just as a side note, I find it unbelievable that NDE researchers can claim that the cross-cultural differences are minimal to the point of insignificance. Watching a video like this, you can have no doubt that this man has had a very uniquely Jewish experience. There is a tunnel and a life review, a light even, but otherwise the entire sequence of events would be very unusual for a non-Jewish experiencer to see.

If you watch the entire series, he talks about Zakkim and how they are at a higher level than angels. I don't think he describes the appearance of the ministering angels, just the avenging angels and the angel of death. His entire experience will probably seem completely foreign to your Mormon friend, should he decide to watch it. I would be curious to know how he would explain the differences.

Sorry, I don't know how to do the video box thing with the JREF disclaimer! So please consider it disclaimed.

Pretty much does it for me...

Oh, wait...Angels. I seem to recall that some of the OT descriptions were basically human beings, and others were of terrifying monsters with lots of eyes and/or several heads as mentioned above.
Not someone you'd want to meet showing you to the doors of the Garden...

I picked up one of those "Angel" books that were so popular a few years ago and the author described encountering an angel who looked exactly like a nice European gentleman on skis. Go figure.

Thanks a lot

Angel means messenger. The Bible describes them all as male. Some appear wearing brilliant white attire.

Archetypes of the collective unconscious don't look like anything. They are formless patterns in the objective and the subjective psyche. But when they surface to the conscious mind, as in a vision or a dream, then they take a symbolic cultural form and that form has to be decoded in order to be understood in cross-cultural terms. You might as well ask what a dream looks like.

Angels wear white robes, play harps, and have their genitalia spackled smooth.

Nonsense.

People dreamt up these silly beasts, often quite consciously.

'archetypes of the collective unconscious'?

Please.

I though all Angels were supposed to be masculine, in which case Xuxa looks a bit gay
:p

Wrong again, have you ever been right about anything limbo ?
in reality, angels are a common era interpretation of deified kings from polytheistic cultures. Which is why
1. they are all male
2. they have wings
3. they are regarded as divine
4. they are regarded as messengers to a chief deity
this is more history than religion. The existence of angelic archetypes dos not come from monotheism,
Rabbi Shimon Bem Lakish 250CE said:
"Israel took the names of the angels from the Babylonians during the period of the Exile"
and the Babylonians weren't monotheists, they might have invented the concept, but they didn't practice it
:p
