What can paralyze one arm?

The first thing that comes to mind is radial neuropathy. "Saturday night palsy". I remember hearing of a few cases of this due to excessive drinking by college students. They would pass out, and friends would not move them for many hours.

When Walter Koenig played the telepath Alfred Bester in Babylon Five, he deliberately didn't move one hand to indicate Bester had this problem, with the intention of introducing a defect he was "compensating" for.

Rolfe.

Two people I knew both had atrophied arms as the result of motorbike accidents, though I don't know exactly what about the injuries caused that.

There's two dozen things it could be. Just ask him. If he gets violent, watch out for his good arm.

For some months now I've noticed that one cashier at the Safeway always uses his left arm to do his job. At first I just thought this was some quirk of his. But as time as gone on I'm beginning to think that maybe something else is going on. The other day I noticed his right arm was suffering atrophy (also it was little bit red).

His right hand is always clenched in loose fist. He can move the right arm a little bit he seems unable to unclench the fist.

Does anyone know of what might cause that?

Has he mentioned anything about recovering one of the Dark Lord's Horcruxes?

A friend of mine had an accident riding his bicycle, he grabbed a nearby railing and his pectoral muscle was torn completely from the bone. Unluckily when he saw a doctor here he was prescribed massages and told that it would recover in a few weeks. After several months he had an MRI, but again unluckily they took the MRI of his stomach rather than his shoulder/chest.

Anyway, long story short, six months after the injury he went to the states and got surgery. He told me that because of the length of time before treatment, he is in real risk of losing all feeling in the arm: something like the nerves are under constant tension and could snap at any moment, particularly if he over-uses the arm. And since he's a BJJ guy, it's somewhat likely that he will do just that.

Sounded scary, anyway.

The Glasgow Coma Test involves placing a bottle of whisky in front of the patient.

Stroke is what I first thought of. My sister-in-law has a nerve condition that causes intense pain. Her right arm isn't paralyzed, but it is stiff and what movement it is capable of is very painful for her.

Stroke-like condition was my first thought, too. My brother had a very serious acquired brain injury and after coming out of a 14 day coma and spending more than a year in physical rehab relearning how to walk and talk and such, he still had, among other things, some permanent physical damage on his right side, most particularly his right arm, which was always thereafter held close to his body and the fingers were always clenched. It was only with great physical effort that he could straighten out that arm or unclench those fingers.

A close friend of mine has an identical condition (same arm, too).

Impact from motorcycle accident, nerve damage.
