That's not what you said recently in another thread:

You stated (near the bottom of the page):
"In terms of justice and personal freedom, this country is just a few steps better than a tin-pot dictatorship."

My claim: "You, on the other hand, HAVE made the claim that America is barely better than dictatorships."

Indeed. In the context of that thread, it was mostly true. Do you not care if an innocent man gets executed simply because a jury found him guilty? Do you not care that a state attorney general advocated it? Do you not see that as a gross injustice.

Let the weaseling begin.

You're the one weaseling. You pick an offhand hyperbolic remark I made, in a thread about a very specific topic that has absolutely nothing do with this one and try to fabricate some kind of point concerning the subject matter of this thread.

"Context" my foot. Your statement did not confine itself to a particular incident. Your statement was a characterization of the entire country. I made reference to this statement, accurately described it, and you called me a liar for it. "Context" may provide a defense against the stupidity of your original statement, but it doesn't excuse the fact that you called me a liar for pointing out what you did, in fact, actually say.

You can minimize the importance of your characterization of the US as being barely better than a dictatorship all you want to, but you still said it. You want to claim that this statement doesn't mean much? Fine. But you called me a liar for pointing out what you said. You really DID say what I claimed you said.

I don't expect an apology from you for that false accusation, but that's only because my opinion of you is already so low.

Well then I apologize for calling you a liar, but I was thinking you were talking about our exchange in this thread. Not some other thread based on an unrelated topic.

but that's only because my opinion of you is already so low.

Yep, most people who question the status quo and speak for freedom are thought of as "low" by lesser minds. Guess who history generally proves right?

One thing history often omits is the ten thousand genuine idiots for every misapprehended genius. Simply being thought of as a "low intellect" is not much of a credential for claiming a superior one.

Apology accepted.

"But the fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown."
