What Are You Part II

ACCORDING TO YOUR ANSWERS,

The political description that
fits you best is...

LIBERTARIAN
LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and
economic matters.

But I don't - I support the maximum liberty that is possible and still have functioning society. The way this is worded is more a definition of anarchy then libertarianism.

They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence.

The size of a government is not a libertarian principle - the libertarian principle would be to have just the size of government required - that could in fact be a large government or a small government.

Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility,
Wow they've got one thing right!

oppose government bureaucracy
As with the size of the government this is not a libertarian principle - what they are playing with is the way "bureaucracy" can also be used as a negative word the "frustrating & petty rules sense" however bureaucracy also means (encrata) "an administrative system, especially in a government, that divides work into specific categories carried out by special departments of non-elected officials" in otherwords if you have a government you have to by definition have bureaucracy.

and taxes,

Again not necessarily a libertarian principle; if a person can leave the libertarian state (if they do not wish to pay the taxes) then taxation can be part of a libertarian society since all members of the society agree to pay taxes.

promote private charity,

Really nothing to do with libertarianism - what people do with their own resources is a matter for them - a libertarianism should be neutral regarding matters like this - or did they forget that they've already said "..embrace individual responsibility"?

tolerate diverse lifestyles,

Not quite - it is not a matter of tolerate it is a matter that a libertarian believes every individual may do what they like as long as they don't initiate force against another. Again a libertarian should be neutral.

support the free market,

This is an interesting one. I would say that a libertarian should not support the "free market" since that would mean imposing a specific form of trade and economic decisions on people - people should be free to trade and make whatever economic choices they wish. I've always thought libertarianism would have to revert back to a more mercantile system as legal conveniences such as limited liability companies seem almost anti-libertarian to me.

and defend civil liberties.

Well yes and no. Surely all they should be interested in is the civil liberty of "no initiation of force"?

As the sole statist, so far, here's how I justify my responses.

Personal Issues
Government should not censor speech, press, media or Internet

I disagreed based on the shouting "fire" in a theatre argument.

Military service should be voluntary. There should be no draft

I disagreed. In the event of threat of invasion, I expect the government to defend the country using appropriate methods - up to and including a national draft.

There should be no laws regarding sex for consenting adults

I disagreed, having someone [rule8]ing your brains out on the pavement, can endanger other road users.

Repeal laws prohibiting adult possession and use of drugs

I disagreed. It should be extended to include dangerous drugs like tobacco and alcohol.

There should be no National ID card

I agreed, I think we need one each.

End "corporate welfare." No government handouts to business

I disagreed. I think a government-based carbon trading scheme is a good idea.

End government barriers to international free trade

I disagreed. I don't think free trade, in arms for example, is always a good idea.

Let people control their own retirement; privatize Social Security

I disagreed. Having seen the fiasco of rail privatisation, the idea of what this would do to pensions horrifies me. The name 'Robert Maxwell' sprang to mind.

Replace government welfare with private charity

I disagreed. I see no reason to conclude that more money would get to the appropriate people by using private charity.

Cut taxes and government spending by 50% or more

I disagreed. We can't fund a decent space program without lots of taxes.

Somebody should devise an alignment quiz.

I'm tired of being pigeon-holed by these other quizzes when I know I'm Neutral Good.:p

http://www.quizfarm.com/test.php?q_id=382&first=yes

(I'm Neutral Good BTW, though borderline Lawful Good)

Anyway, right slap dab in the middle of the Liberal box. I was almost as shocked as when that other quiz said I was an Atheist, right after I'd ticked "There is no God" fifteen times.

How People Have Scored

70% personal 60%economic

Centrist 33.11 %

Right (Conservative) 8.66 %

Libertarian 32.79 %

Left (Liberal) 17.54 %

Statist (Big Government) 7.9%

Ha! And people never believe me when I describe myself as a left-leaning moderate!

Okay, I give up trying to upload the picture. My red dot is right on the border between "centrist" and "left liberal."

Well gee people styling their hair in the middle of the road or eating a hamburger can also endanger other road users. We should enact laws against hair styling and and eating. I'm sorry, your logic doesn't make much sense. Seems a bit of a stretch.

OK annother example, would you like to see street prostitution in front of your kid's school?

I think he meant he favors laws against public sex so other people don't have to watch.

I tend to agree. I don't want others having sex in the same park I take my kids to, but I don't really think it's the governments business what happens in privacy so long as everyone is willing.

Exactly, the key words missing from the question were in private.

I've seen this guy before...

My alignment is Sarcastic Neutral. My favorite food is grilled bratwurst, sauerkraut, and cold lager beer with hot German mustard. My favorite car was my VW Bug. My favorite sports team is the Dallas Cowboys. My favorite color is blue. My pistol is a .357 Magnum Ruger Blackhawk. My dog is a mongrel. If these colors aren't coming through on your CRT, I suggest you buy a Motorola. :D

The site holds me as a nearly Libertarian Rightish Centrist.

Okay, I'm not really a Rastafarian Druid.

Surprised?

I'm really a Centrist.

Surprised?

It's true! :)

Here's my actual score map, on the left. The score map on the right is where a lot of you probably think I really am. This just proves beyond any questioning that I'm pretty much middle-of-the-road. And that makes the rest of you (y'all know who you are) a buncha goddam commie pinko perverts, except for those of you to the right of me, who are regular patriotic Americans, God bless you.

ETA: The "centrist" area is smaller than the other four individual areas. Which proves something, I guess...
