"Wet Goddess" Can bestiality Ever Be OK?

I don't think there is much to be said for it if you don't care for an animal's right to consent (which most people don't do), more people care about animal suffering, which is why some forms might be and are illegal simply based on that.

It's a bit gray, but it's something only an extreme fringe does (as opposed to say, homosexuals, which make up a major part of society), and that most people very strongly disapprove of, so there's not that much harm from illegalizing it.

Not so much. There are undoubtedly some people in the world who only have sex with the intent to procreate as part of their religious doctrine, but for the vast majority of people, sex is for fun most of the time. Your argument would go against sex in a couple that can't procreate, for whatever reason (homosexual, infertile, birth control, non-vaginal, etc.)

God I hope my argument does go against everything you just listed. Key word "biological reasoning" Not emotional reasoning.

You do realize that the biology of sexual activity pertains to much more than procreation itself, especially in species that have prolonged neotenic-paedomorphic stages of development, right?

It isn't illegal everywhere.

And the core issue is that animals, like children, cannot legally give free and clear consent.
The irony of saving them from being raped, so that they can be chopped up and eaten, is something that only humans could come up with.

Well, sort of. It's not like we let the guards rape a prisoner before s/he heads into the gas chamber. Humans try to live up to an ideal of dignity. (I said try, they don't always succeed.)

If animals can't give consent, does that imply that every time non-humans have sex it's rape?

Because I only have so many buckets of water.

Except that at this point, you've already accepted the principle that it's ok to outlaw something if you can tie "icky" and "lots of people" to it.

Whence come freedom? Where is the principle that government was never given this power over rights to begin with?

Without it, you get no succor from others...if things don't go your way. See gay marriage, which many, if not most, find "icky". And, contrary to what is said just above, is hardly the widespread thing.

Indeed, assuming 10% vs., say, 0.01%, why is one of sufficient size that it is "safe" from legal assault, and the other, not? The dividing line is arbitrary and both are clearly something a power hungry demagogue could take advantage of, with no arguments other than "We are the majority and we decide it's icky and thus forbid it!"

Maybe there are different sorts of bestiality, based on the motivation. You could have 1) sex, 2) rape, 3) masturbation.

you do realize if gay was normal, and everyone went gay you would cease to exist right?

using scientific lingo in a non scientific setting does not make you look or sound intelligent. Please refrain from it.

Pretty much, except I don't think we "decide" it's icky, we recognize it as such. This is different than a dictator deciding that his picture belongs in every home, it's more like religious folks recognizing having a home altar is a good idea. The first has an agenda behind it, the second, not so much. Neither of these, by the way, has any real, independent truth value, but the distinction is important.

I would cease to exist?

How come I'm still here 12 years after coming out to my parents?

You also do realize that there is no logical entailment that anyone would "go" gay if homosexuality were destigmatized.

Your appealing to "common sense" in a non-"common-sense" setting does not make you look intelligent. Please refrain from it.

Point taken. Are there any places to look for credible, serious defenses of beastiality?

Stephen Ambrose in one of his WWII histories mentioned that farm boys in the Army were astounded to find that city boys had their first sexual experiences with a woman.

Was that something that Ambrose reported as a fact or was it something recorded as an account from an informant?

Why is doing something for fun rape and doing it for business fine and normal business practices? If rape is really a concern we need to seriously change animal husbandry practices.

As a percentage who knows? They seem to both be a few percent.

would you all please stop comparing homosexuals to people who like to have sex with animals. It is a disgusting comparison and irrelevant.

Okay, let's not get sidelined here.

the homosexuality thing was only brought up in my op because some people consider homosexuality revolting and unnatural.

I have no problem with it.

lots of people used to find interracial couplings revolting. If it helps, we can use interracial coupling instead of homosexuality.

I don't care if you have no problem with it. This sort of "casual example" is part of the problem with how homosexuals are treated. How about we don't use any human coupling as a comparison of of having sex with animals.

Anyways, some interesting discussion in here.

Some people are pointing out the harm to the animal. But we kill animals all the time, legally. Others are pointing out the animals can't consent, but then ponderingturtle pointed out the forced fertilization of animals, which is legal. Which suggests to me that it's still really the case that we're just sanctioning the bestialite human's sexual proclivities, rather than seeking to protect animals.

So I still don't see a argument against bestiality in here, except maybe the zoonose (disease transmission between species) argument

not that I'm in favour of bestiality

I think it's gross

I think eating bowls of snot is gross too

but I wouldn't outlaw it

someone pointed out how it's not that we 'decide' bestiality is gross, it 'just is'
I dunno about this line of reasoning

someone also pointed out that hom... interracial couples are much more common than bestialites

so if bestialites become more common does this make bestiality okay?

we need a moral philosopher up in this bitch
(no pun intended)

I'm not that bothered about bestiality tbh, unless the pony kicks (most communication is non-verbal)...and obviously not chickens. It's incest that freaks me out. Fortunately, incestphobia is not currently vilified so I'm allowed in polite society with this irational, bigoted and intollerant view.
