Eventually managed to get suspended from LC forums (apparently by IVXX) after a hundred-some-odd posts. IP blocked... I can't even read the forums now.

It appears that there are two subjects in particular which constitute a sort of third rail as far as continued forum participation goes.

1. Korey Rowe, and the fact that he once admitted in an interview that Loose Change contains false information that was intentionally left in the film. Dylan Avery himself expressed embarassment at Rowe's remarks and had another poster suspended on the spot for even mentioning this in discussion. If I remember correctly, the entire thread was eventually deleted as if it had never occurred.

2. The whole FBI-is-stalking-Bermas thing. As anyone knows from reading the SLC blog, the entire issue has become an Unstory (with a nod to Orwell), the LC blog entry to which having been deleted, along with the entire thread which was started in The Lounge. No follow-up. No retraction or correction of any kind whatsoever... once again, as if the whole thing was never reported upon to begin with. Apparently, this is also among The Things We Do Not Mention, else the offender suddenly finds him/herself to be an Unperson, Big Brother-fashion.

Not to complain, in any event. I expected to be banned long before now and, frankly, am somewhat surprised that I lasted as long as I did, given my "skeptic" position and delivery.

A funny thing, though. Apparently, any computer from which I attempt to access LC forums (using my now defunct User Name and Password) becomes instantly blocked from reading the forums. I've already tried several, and such seems, consistently, to be the case. So now I'm thinking...

Although not a computer tech of any kind, the course of my work does give me access to many different computers over the course of time, in many different parts of the state in which I reside... many opportunities to effectively render each of which blocked from reading LC forums... by both skeptics and truthers alike, as the case may be.

Out of spite. To be a dick, whathaveyou.

I was actually surprised they made a valient effort to be fair and allow critics to hang around, unlike last time around. That didn't last long, and the power rapidly went to IVXX's head.

this has to do with the cookies, once you log in the site "remembers" you so you dont have to log in again next time, to this transfers the ban to the new computer

however, deleting the cookies on that computer will clear the login info and it will behave normally again

I checked back, and the thread which asked about the deleted thread in which the Two Subjects (see previous post in this thread) were mentioned has, itself, been deleted.

I've often thought that the best way to deal with the "9/11 truth" crowd is to not deal with them at all... that those who debate them, including Gravy, et al, and, to a much lesser extent, myself and others are, despite the best of intentions, unwittingly helping snake oil salesmen such as Dylan Avery by prompting them to adjust their arguments into something a little more palatable to general onlookers and passers-by at the carnival.... that, left unchallenged in any way, the "movement" will eventually implode under the weight of their own paranoia and (in terms of credibility) through the prism of their own loonball assertions.

Kinda like a chimp with a loaded handgun.

No I think you're right to debate them, because in doing so you bring up facts and arguments which people such as myself are unaware of.

I first discovered 9/11 woowoo while posting on another forum which was political (actually liberal/left wing) and had nothing specific to do with 9/11.

My concern upon reading the claims of the woowoos (some sadly people whose political opinions I respected but who were also totally taken in by the woowoo) with regard to the collapse of the towers was that they could not possibly be right. So that prompted me to do a little bit of research myself just to find out if I was wrong.

But when they started posting woowoo about other aspects of 9/11.... the pa crash, norad, put options etc etc I was at a loss to answer them quickly because it was the first time I'd heard the specifics (apart from the loose change crap which had me talking to my computer monitor for as long as I could bear to watch it).

It was gravy's loose change guide, the debunking911myths and the screwloosechange vid which gave me enough insight to counter the woowoo.

But then I decided I wanted to find out more, and the best place to do this seems to be here.

I do read the lc forum simply to see what absurdities they are spouting these days, but I prefer to debate the woowoo here because I am more interested in learning the answers than in providing them.

So I certainly think you all should carry on the good work and I'll be ncluding this in my quarterly report to my handlers. Hopefully, we'll all get extra elves this christmas.

How absurd that they call themselves the Truth Movement, and then ban everyone and his brother! In my mind, this habit constitutes the "smoking gun" that proves the whole conspiracy thing is bogus. If we're so lame, why do they throw us out? And why do we care?

Also, once in a while a CT goes ad hominem on your ass. I assume this has happened to you. One Truther--an Austinite named Kris Boro--started showing up at non-conspiracy forums, putting up psychotic PhotoShop images of me, saying I was a pornographer, and so on:

Some Truthers have threatened me, which could be serious, since most of them are gun nuts. But they sounded limp and unconvincing, and none of them has dared try anything.

Another angry CT started putting up scrofulous YouTube videos of me. He took the images from my own YouTube videos and did an obscene voiceover, mostly implying I was gay. (Many Truthers are extremely homophobic.) There was no satirical content--just the usual CT nastiness and cussing. I got the videos taken down for violation of copyright. What a bunch of idiots.

I know many of you have had similar experiences, where CTs snapped and started attacking and threatening you. I get more trouble from CTs than I do from neocons. It's a sure sign their whole thing is bogus.

P.S.: Just for the record, I got banned from a neocon forum once for using a metaphor. Even the conspiracy guys never did that.

What got me banned, was when they reffered to anyone who accepted the findings of the greater scientific community as "sheeple," I commented that I saw "sheeple" on the 9/11/06. They were all dressed the same, marched in a line and chanted together, then crowded around their shepherd and chanted some more. Someone else posted a picture of a Nazi rally.

BTW, some ISP's use dynamic IP adressing. If you remove power from your modem (DSL or Cable) and leave it for several hours or overnight then plug it back in you might end up with a different IP address. If the ISP uses static addressing then this will have no effect.

If a forum has gone all the way and banned your IP but your ISP uses dynamic adressing then you will beable to re-register under another name. You would also need a different e-mail though and of course this is sock-puppetry which is bad no matter the good intentions. mmm 'Kay

There are plenty of websites that provide temporary free email addresses, where all usernames have no password, and anyone can log into any name. So you can use these websites to register, easily.

Proxy.org, as well, provides with an IP rerouting that will allow you read the forums.
