Welcome, Tandi

Huh? Why do we need to function proficiently in this reality?

Exactly. Why?

If consciousness can see all these different realities, why the heck does it need to exist and/or function in this one? What's the point? It apparantly has a much wider ranging view without these limitations imposed by this reality, so why the heck does it need to be in this reality? This theory is completely untenable without a boatload of additional assumptions, I'm afraid. It's similar to arguing that fish have gills so they can exist in water, and that this somehow necessarily means that they can breathe air, water, and vacuum after death. The logic just doesn't follow unless you start with the assumption that our exisentce is somehow necessary, or unavoidable.

Good points.

No, that's not what I'm asking.

What I am actually asking is:
Why would you think that our unbounded consciousnesses would be unable to function properly in this reality?

What leads you to think that?

For a kick off we wouldn't be interested in doing the things we do now. Our everyday mundane lives would no longer hold any interest for us. And as for being telepathically directly acquanited with other peoples thoughts, emotions, and their very being, this has been discussed before and it was agreed on all hands that this would be unworkable.

I would speculate that we are all here in order to learn and experience and for our souls to mature in wisdom, and we would not be able to do that unless our perceptions and memories are limited by the brain.

The reasoning is circular. The brain is a limitation of perception for the soul so it can grow, and to grow it has to exist in this reality, and the brain has to be limited to allow this, and the brain is limited so the soul can grow, etc, etc, etc.

You presuppose the existence of the soul, then sure, you might be on to something. But none of this provides any proof of a soul or afterlife.

Just a quick note. I have been banned from Digitalspy for saying that Derek Acorah is a terrible medium.

You realize, Ian, I hope, that I was lying?

Huntsman actually gave another concise criticism of your position. I simply don't feel inclined to post it for you when you can resolve the issue yourself.

But check pm, please.

Ian's scared of spiders. Even faces of spiders which have been placed onto human bodies, so that it's not even possible to tell that it's a spider any more.

Either that or he likes having an excuse to ignore someone who disagrees with him.

The thread's over. Please stop posting to it. And please stop posting to say that you're ignoring people. That's just silly.

Just for that, I'm ignoring you Paj :p

:D

P.S.-I'm not posting on this thread, either.

I pm'd Ian to ask him about Huntsman's avatar. I should probably have posted my question publicly.

If Ian says it's a legitimate phobia, I will take him at his word and quote Huntsman for him when I'm around to do it.

I understand the effects phobias can have.

So, that's what I thought was weird about Huntsman's avatar.

Last post in this thread, last lurk... Unless I hear someone's posted something worthwhile.

Wow, with that incentive how doesn't everyone have spider avatars? :D

So thats what it is! I would never have known.
