That's what I like about partisanship, by refusing to work with the other side we can put off helping Americans for political reasons. But there is a reason beyond politics, things will be better for citizens anyway so why help them now.

I put it this way on another forum I frequent:

The U.S. ship of state has struck an iceberg. But the crew on the bridge, rather than trying to deal with the problem, are too busy arguing over who's going to be the new captain. Meanwhile, the ship takes on even more water...

If any made-in-America financial crisis only affected America, then I'd just quote the immortal words of Bug Bunny: "If it's the captain's mess, let him clean it up!" Unfortunately, the last time there was a financial disaster, its effects were felt far beyond America's borders, and many other countries got sideswiped by U.S.-originated troubles.

Consequently, I'd rather not see another American financial disaster.

Because it worked so well the last time we did that, Hell, look around. It's been 10 years since the tax cuts and Republicans held all branches of power. The Job market took off and has been stable; housing market; stable and growing, stock market; stable and growing, deficits/debt; shrinking, GDP; oh don't even get me started. I just can't wait to get back to those rosy GOP times.

The fact that they caused a needless trillion dollar war and crashed the economy, almost destroyed the banking system, and turned investment into a home from the American Dream to the American Nightmare for many the last time we allowed them to run things gives me major pause.

Wow. You two guys really need a fact-check, a history lesson AND a calendar! Hint.. the trouble really started when the DemonRats took over Congress.

And I love the comment about a "needless trillion dollar war". As if we were not supposed to militarily respond to the event of 9/11. At all.... Wow... just wow.

And the housing market collapse was the GOP's fault? Puhleeze...

Most republicans believe the best way to help the country is by taking the senate and the presidency back and then putting different policies in place.

I do agree there are some republicans who would vote against President Obama even if he did exactly what they wanted.

What you mentioned in the first paragraph is probably true, and in turn is true of Democrats when Republicans are in power.

Don't fix anything now... just get rid of those bad people and then we can fix everything.

This idea is what has led to politics in this country into being an exercise of politicians seeking to replace each other and consolidate their party's power, instead of promoting even their own platforms.

You can't make that go away entirely, but the less the voters buy into it, the less that becomes the only game in town.

Ummm, no. The GOP only had control of government for only 4 out of the 10 years from 2000-2010. You seem to have forgotten little details like Jumpin' Jim Jeffords. So if you want to correctly lay blame for all the ills you mention, look in the mirror because YOUR guys have to take most of the blame.
