That's what I like about partisanship, by refusing to work with the other side we can put off helping Americans for political reasons. But there is a reason beyond politics, things will be better for citizens anyway so why help them now.
I put it this way on another forum I frequent:
The U.S. ship of state has struck an iceberg. But the crew on the bridge, rather than trying to deal with the problem, are too busy arguing over who's going to be the new captain. Meanwhile, the ship takes on even more water...
I just can't wait for another bank meltdown and financial crises. You?
If any made-in-America financial crisis only affected America, then I'd just quote the immortal words of Bug Bunny: "If it's the captain's mess, let him clean it up!" Unfortunately, the last time there was a financial disaster, its effects were felt far beyond America's borders, and many other countries got sideswiped by U.S.-originated troubles.
Consequently, I'd rather not see another American financial disaster.
