I see the theory of myself and, independently, of Captain Alejandro Franz is back again (to explain the main incident of the Mexican Airforce UFO footage):

http://www.randi.org/jr/080504string.html#11

Thanks to Patricio for putting forward that I seem to have been first to suggest what appears to be the correct solution to the main incident. :)

Credit must go to a lot of people as well, like Thomas for getting the full video and putting it online, and Patricio himself for doing the translations, and others too and for other reasons.

For example, looking back now, it turns out that Mummymonkey was the first person to get really close to the right place for the oil-facilities I'd suggested, just being a little out with this picture from here .

My own thinking was, wrongly, way off to the southeast at that point, in the sea or on the land for the location of the oil flares. :p

For anyone interested in more on this, Captain Franz and others have put together a whole lot of interesting stuff at this page and this one too.

There are still a few loose ends about the mystery of the Unidentified Flying Oil-facility, though... I hope someone else will solve those as I'm not going to make UFO investigation a hobby... ;)

I think you should reconsider your decision. Seems you have special innate talents in the UFO field. When you become a famous UFO investigator, you will recall with fondness your first "case" :D:D

I went back and looked how this thread started to see what I could learn in hindsight, and discovered Mummymonkey and myself were both thinking a very similar way... :)

Have a look at these selected quotes in sequence:

[I start off by saying the video is hard to interpret or to even tell what the background surface is, meaning it was impossible to tell if it was land or sea. I never thought it was sky because of the apparent reflection off something below the "headlights"...]

wipeout - "Could be a bunch of hot things sitting still on the ground, for all I can tell." :D

[I find a map and get an idea of the rough camera direction]

wipeout - "There's a main coastal road in the direction of the infra-red sources (slightly out of alignment with each other) but not a whole lot else, it seems, from looking at the maps."

mummymonkey - "Looks to me that the heat sources are on the ground some distance away to the north. Perhaps at sea."

[I discover the camera is pointing very roughly towards the city of Ciudad del Carmen. I half-joke about the UFOs being a ballooning convention at the airport.]

wipeout - "If there is industry, it could be some sort of flares from a chimneys or similar."

[I was thinking of a refinery of some sort.]

mummymonkey - "As it stands I still think the objects may be on the ground some distance to the north. Perhaps at sea. Are there oil/gas rigs in that area?"

[I get curious about what Ciudad del Carmen might have close to it which is hot. I realize I haven't done an internet search yet on the city, and do so...]

wipeout Hey, see what I've just found... :D

[I'd found quotes confirming the existence of oil-platforms at sea in the Campeche area, right next to Ciudad del Carmen]

I was the first person to suggest flares from chimneys from "some kind of industry" somewhere in or around Ciudad del Carmen but Mummymonkey was the first person to actually suggest "oil/gas rigs" and I confirmed that they existed.

Looking back now, I realize Mummymonkey was on the right track every bit as much as me, and so credit where it's due to him/her. :D

Oops!,.. you're right :o . Apologies to Mummymonkey for not crediting him/her on my letter to Randi.

I didn't realize it myself until yesterday, Patricio. I had thought the same as you and probably other people in the thread. :)

I'm the first person to suggest flares from some kind of industry related to the city but Mummymonkey is the first person to suggest that these flares were on oil rigs.

I was then the first person to confirm that there were oil rigs in the area but that wasn't prompted by what Mummymonkey suggested, that was me looking for some kind of industry around the city.

I'm obviously not sure if Mummymonkey's line of thought was prompted by what I was saying as I followed my own line of thought. :)

I sent a personal message to Mummymonkey and offered to e-mail the people I know have written articles (or who might be about to) which credit me (or which might do) to see if he/she wants credit.

I was the first one to wipe my ass this morning. I did hear next door's toilet flushing a few minutes before but I am sure I started first because their toilet light was not on when I first sat down. Also I made a pretty loud sound when I cleared my throat as I got out of bed and that probably woke up my neighbour so, if she was first, I should get some credit for that as well.

BillyJoe,

I'm trying to be fair to someone and needed to detail who said what to do this. It doesn't involve you in any way and it's not important issue. So why even comment? :p

Actually, I just realized that there's a certain comedy if we don't tell people our real names and people in serious skeptical articles have to credit "Wipeout and Mummymonkey" for putting forward the correct solution. :D

I like your avatar, by the way. I actually saved it to disk a few months back. Your own drawing or do you have to give credit to someone else? :p

Cool ( did you miss the smily), I was just joking around.

Yes, some anonymous source on the internet! :D

I wasn't sure so I had a smiley stick its tongue out at you as that would be my response either way. :D

I do tend to go on a bit, though, yeah... ;)

Actually, serious skeptics giving a credit to "Mummymonkey, Wipeout and Captain Franz" would be even better as it sounds like cartoon characters from Hanna Barbera, like Wacky Races or something. :D

I wish I'd named myself "Hong Kong Phooey" now...

Mummymonkey replied to my PM and says it's okay and that he's just glad we did something that is what the JREF is all about in that thread. :)
