Watching the debate tonight?

I'm surprised that he agreed to one on NBC. He hates MSNBC (except for the fact that they talk about him a lot) and I can't see him not conflating the two networks.

I don't see Trump's event on my online TV listings yet. I see Biden's. Of course, his was planned ahead of time, not out of the blue (and out of spite).

Trump's refusal to STFU during the first debate makes sense - he was doing his best to infect Biden.

Looking forward to seeing the train wreck. I wonder how many times people will have to interrupt with "Mr. President, I'm still speaking." It won't be the moderator that has to do it this time.

I think more people will watch Trump's town hall than Biden's not because he's more popular, but because they want to see what the hell whacko crap he pulls. I know I'd rather watch his than Biden's. I know I'm voting for Biden. I'm more interested in watching what kind of crazy Trump pulls.

Precisely. It's a genius ratings move by NBC, but one that is being largely vilified by many real journalists. I think it's a pretty dick move myself, scheduling them at the same time. I have to believe it wasn't solely NBC's desire to do that.

It seems obvious that the only way Trump was going to do it was if it was at the same time as Biden's, so he can crow about better ratings. Regardless of actual ratings, of course.
He probably also figures it will stop people seeing Biden. Since he's never learned how to program the VCR, he'll figure no one else can either.
I'll not bother watching either.

That's a risky move though. If he does get better ratings, he'll point it out to the collective shrug of the voters he needs to pull in to win. If he gets worse ratings, it's going to bother him more than anyone else in the world.

What to watch for is the differences in Covid-precautions the two Townhalls take.
Trump will insist that his hall looks more packed, so we can expect an easy case for Biden that Trump doesn't care if anyone else gets sick, now that he has his antibodies, natural and artifical.

We've been watching the debates with the kiddos. I explained the problem of the dueling townhalls tonight and asked the kids which one they were interested in.

My 9 year old daughter put it well. She wants to see Biden's townhall because he'll actually be able to say things without the constant interruption, but she also wants to see Trump's so she'll understand all the memes the next day.

That's an awesome answer!

I feel split as well. As a Canadian, I will probably watch the Trump town hall for the pure spectacle. It makes me smile when he makes a fool of himself.

While I wish for the US to have a better President, I don't really need to know the details of Biden's plans. A cigarette butt fished out of a dirty urinal could do a better job than Trump.

I just want to watch Trump squirm.

Trump Tweets

I will be doing a major Fake @NBCNews Town Hall Forum, live tonight from Miami, at 8:00 P.M. They asked me to do it in place of the Rigged Steve Scully (he is now suspended from @cspan for lying) Debate. I wonder if they’ll treat me as well as Sleepy Joe? They should!

For pete's sake, he still calls it "Fake @NBCNews" and they eat it up. NBC should cancel now, and say, "Clearly, the President does not take it seriously, and we are unwilling to give him a forum until he shows the media some respect."

Where's the problem? He says he's doing a fake townhall tonight.

I've decided I'm not watching tonight. I'll catch the highlights on youtube later.

And since the "highlights" will almost certainly be gaffes, I do hope I'll be watching a lot of Trump this evening.

GUTHRIE: When was your last negative coronavirus test?

TRUMP: "Well, I test quite a bit."

GUTHRIE: Did you test the day of the debate?

TRUMP: "I don't know. I don't even remember."

G: Did you take a test the day of the debate?

T: "I probably did."
