Watching the debate tonight?

"I'm the least racist person in this room!" - Trump, directly to the moderator who is a black woman.

Did I see Biden turn his head to the side and mouth "WTF" to someone seated lower, when Trump said something about "windmills"?

About the 'gasses' that 'come up' from making windmills.

I think he was talking about the impact in greenhouse gasses from producing the wind turbines, but contrary to what Trump claimed those are still WAYYYY less than natural gas CO2. Obviously.

I must say that this was unexpectedly civilized from both sides. Biden looks further away from dementia than expected.
Great use of passive construction for rhetorical effect.

So I tihnk he "won" this clown show. I had as much fun as possible with this farce - hope you did as well.
I was happy to see this conversation take place.

I’m surprised nobody mentioned Trump’s response to Biden’s (don’t remember exact statement so paraphrasing) “There are 500 kids who were taken from their families.”

Trump’s emphatic response: “Good!”

That heartless bastard.

Trump was desperate to make the Obama administration 'own' the cages, but not only does that fail on many contextual grounds (the rate, length, and manner was completely different under the Obama administration), but it just doesn't even work for the intentionally uninformed when Trump clearly loves the policy on every level.

You can't throw shade on your opponent for putting kids in cages while being gleeful and bragging about overflowing the cages.

It was surprisingly normal until Trump's sedatives wore off in the last half hour. I don't think anyone saw anything they weren't expecting to see: Biden is still bending over backwards trying to be Responsible Grandpa for the whole nation, and Trump is still physically unable to tell the unvarnished truth in any circumstance.

The most disturbing thing about Trump in this debate is that he thinks every single thing comes down to money, and anyone who doesn’t share this view is a socialist. Climate change mitigation costs money, so we’re not doing this. Minimum wages cost money, so I don’t support it. Public health care is theft etc etc.

One gaffe by VP Biden -- calling them the "Poor Boys" instead of the "Proud Boys", and misquoting Trump's callout to them. I think he said that Trump said "Stand down and stand back" whereas he actually said "Stand back and stand by", which is very different. One says to stop, the other says, "just wait..."

And to the audience. And to Biden. He has to say lies three times.

Much as it pains me to defend Trump, I went back and looked at that moment and he's actually saying "Go ahead" to the moderator. He just says it so quickly that it sounds a bit like "Good".

Meh ... Trump mangles the English language on an hourly basis. Several times Biden had to restart sentences, possibly due to a stuttering issue. I think it’s fine that he didn’t come across as an ultra polished orator. That’s not the only measure of an effective politician.

Very interesting debate. Not what I expected. The moderated did a great job.

In truth, I think it was a very good debate. In an ideal world, people would pay attention afterwards and check out the claims, and see if the fact checking matches what the candidates said, but I think voters got a pretty good look at both men, and you could see the clear differences between them.

How the voters will react is beyond my ability to say. Sometimes, the major takeaways aren't obvious for a couple of days. I didn't notice any really glaring gaffe from either candidate. There were some lies from Trump, but that's just normal Trump talking. I didn't notice any of the sorts of lies that really get him in trouble.

I think Biden missed some opportunities for a really good kill shot. I'm worried that Biden will make one of the same mistake Hillary made with respect to laptop/emails. Hillary thought truth was an adequate defense, and I fear Biden might be making the same mistake. I think he has to really hammer it home that not only is there nothing there, but that Donald Trump is a major league liar for saying it is.

Oh. I thought he said "Good". And I thought it was very odd. I thought that might be the money quote for the Lincoln Project's post-debate ad.

A "poor boy" is a word for a kind of sandwich in some parts of the country. AKA a submarine or hoagie.

That may be where it came from.

My brother calls them the "Po Boys." As in "eating too much of them." As in Gravy Seals.

I understand your point of view, but felt Biden’s responses were fine.Getting into some power-driven argument has its own pitfalls.

I missed that bit. I hope someone puts up a clip.

I think he actually said "Go ahead" to the moderator as Biden was saying, "520 kids not knowing where in God's name they're going to be and lost their parents."

On that topic, Trump was saying, "Who built the cages? Who built the cages?" (This is probably the bit that Trump was told to say by his advisors), then, "We changed the policy"

When Biden said that the children were taken from their parents, which is what differentiates the Obama admin from Trump admin, then Trump begins saying, "The cages are clean!" (Like, what more do they want than a clean cage, right?)
