Watching the debate tonight?

Sipping on my morning cup of coffee watching MSNBC clips of last night's debate....

Anyone else get the feeling that we're witnessing with our very own eyes, in real time, the final last gasps of air right before the SS USA tips its arse upwards into the air as its nose dives straight down to the bottom of the ocean?

nope, that will come when Trump is a lame duck after losing.

I hear he is already taking bids on Mount Rushmore.

what talking points? The last 2 decades of "third way" Democrat "centrism" are a matter of public record.
So what. Everyone knows that Biden is a centrist. That was a relevant observation during the primaries. Rehashing it today serves Trump. It's a wedge. This is the time when we need to pull together to defeat fascism.

Are you a plant from the Trump campaign? Or maybe you're reading Russian bots and getting all worked up? Rhetorical questions, for which the answers might as well be yes. Congratulations.

It is Biden's job to pull democrats together. He isn't entitled to votes.

Give people an actual reason to vote for him and you won't sound so desperate.

Steve Doocy: "Because the president and his team, for so long, lowered the bar -- saying Joe Biden is gonna be drooling, he's gonna be in the fetal position -- and Joe Biden showed up and stood up for 90 minutes, you know, it was a wash."

Lovely how suddenly Steve Doocy is not part of Trump's team, and hasn't been lowering the bar for Biden for months.

It was an obviously stupid strategy from the outset, but stable jeniuses are gonna jenius, I guess.

As someone in that thread said: when FOX News slams Trump, you know he's done a bad job. Be on the lookout for Tweets on the failing FOX News.

So #joewired is apparently making the rounds on Twitter. Trump supportes are speculating that Biden wore a hidden wire under his shirt. It's either that and Biden doing something really stupid for no real reason, or a crease in his shirt and trumpkins being desperate.

Edit: there's apparently also something sticking out of his shirt sleeve, but to be honest it looks just as much like one of those decorative I don't know what it's called in English that you can pin to the end of your sleeve. Really weird place for a hidden mic, in any case.

Also, if he did wore a mic, and it wasn't in his ear, I expect the mic he spoke into during the debate would pick up the sound.

I saw at least three interviews this morning with Trump staff or outside the admin Trump supporters where the interviewee didn't answer a particular question but just talked and talked over the reporter. Granted, I've seen that many times before, but not to this extent, and length.

I like this from the 538:

Quote:
Biden came prepared for a debate. Trump came in determined to prevent one.

That's always been the Democrat Versus Republican story. One side playing 3 dimensional chess where they thinking 10 moves against against a side playing "I'm gonna flip the board over" and the Democrat response being "Okay so I need think 11 moves ahead?"

Trump isn't playing chess. He's playing "This game is stupid, I want to ruin it so nobody can play it."

So every interaction with Trump is the Democrats sitting there, hand on their chin, brow crunched in extreme concentration, staring at the chess board, expertly visualizing 10 moves ahead, planning that moment where Trump drops his guard and lives his Rook undefended so they can trap him in the classic Philidor Position...

... yet somehow NOT noticing that Trump flipped the board over 20 minutes ago, the pieces are scattered all over the floor, the board is upside down and shattered and Trump took a dump on it, and Trump's already long gone having walked away with the Chess Champion Trophy and the prize money, and is already in the next room banging the tournament judge while his followers talk about what a great Chess player he is.

Biden won the debate.

Trump won ruining the debate.

They both won because they weren't playing the same game.

The advantage to Biden is most people wanted to at least see a debate. I do think Trump, even for Trump, came across just angry incoherent rambling.

Trump lost the debate, because for the entire evening he was trying to make Biden completely lose his cool and go off the rails.
That is why Trump couldn't stop even for a moment, because his entire preparation had been for this single goal.
And he failed to achieve it.

Trump made Biden answer or not answer questions that matter to the far left segment of the Democratic Party. Biden said most police are good, he doesn't support socializing health care, he doesn't support the Green New Deal, and didn't answer on whether he supports ending the Senate filibuster rule or packing the Supreme Court. Some of those statements are at least slightly contradicted by his campaign website but they seemed intended to be a message to the moderates. The far left hated Biden and the establishment Democrats before the debate and they certainly hate them even more now. I think Biden will only ever support and accept incremental changes that benefit money interests (as most politicians do and it isn't necessarily always a bad or immoral thing but it's certainly antithetical to the far left). The question now is what proportion of the Democratic Party the far left voters represent. If they're a small proportion then Biden can win and they will be isolated and weakened within the party. If they're a large proportion or a majority, then Biden probably can't win because they don't hate Trump enough to vote for a corporate stooge and will probably prefer to riot instead (as some have already been doing). I think Biden's problem is that in his current form he could have won as a pre-Trump Republican but he probably can't win as a modern Democrat.

Nobody wants Sleepy Joe as a leader, including the Radical Left (which he lost last night!). He disrespected Bernie, effectively calling him a loser!

Chris had a tough night. Two on one was not surprising, but fun. Many important points made, like throwing Bernie, AOC PLUS 3, and the rest, to the wolves! Radical Left is dumping Sleepy Joe. Zero Democrat enthusiasm, WEAK Leadership!

Trumpkin see, trumpkin do.

Trump supporters are blaming Chris Wallace for Trump's performance.

Carmine Sabia
@CarmineSabia
I have never seen bias in a debate the way Chris Wallace did it. He was running interference for Joe Biden and bailing him out when he could not answer question. The entire nation watched it. Disgraceful. Fox News should fire him.

Linda
@Helovedmefirst
Wallace should be fired. His bias was so obvious. He was Joe's 2nd handler. 2nd to the one at the other end of the wire Joe was wearing.

"Trump is the master of making an exchange look so (crappy) that everyone involved in it looks bad, which works if you're running on the 'This all sucks so you might as well vote for the agent of chaos' subtext like he was in 2016. But if you're the sitting President I don't see how 'Burn it all down' can still be the message." - Jason Pargin

Trumpkin see, trumpkin do.

I've noted before he is the first President where his follower imitate so many of his speech mannerism.

I don't remember anyone ever taking any effort to take on the on the speech patterns or inflections of Reagan or Bush or Clinton or Obama.

But every other Trumper talks in that stitled, stream of consciousness Twitter-speak of Trump.

I've been quite critical of Biden, but I have to say I'm quite pleased with how he has forcefully made an issue of Trump's endorsement of his brownshirts, the Proud Boys, in the aftermath of this debate.

I've been losing my mind with how little the Democratic establishment seemed to care about the massive boom of right wing paramilitary street gangs. The Proud Boys are only the most explicit, radical tip of the spear here. The right is lousy with militia nuts of all sorts.

The Proud Boys are going to be very much emboldened by Trump's endorsement last night, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see the most violent fascist rally in next few days or weeks as a result.

I hope that the Democratic party leadership and the media don't get cowed into "both sides" horse-**** as they always do and speak plainly about this danger.

The police response to right wing violence in Portland, a blue city in a blue state, has been shameful. Liberal politicians are complicit and need to take appropriate action to snuff out this right wing violence. If these Proud Boys saw even a fraction of the police response that BLM protests see every night, they could be quickly mitigated.

I hope that Biden commits to make breaking up right wing militias a federal law enforcement priority in his administration. Local cops are not inclined to oppose these groups, we need the FBI.

Again, this isn't Trump. This is his "PR team" trying desperately to justify being paid the big bucks to make him look good after yet another disastrous performance in public.

Those were just his cuff links. I wear them sometimes with my nicer suits and dress shirts. Instead of buttons at the end of the sleeve at your wrists there are two button holes and you put the link through the hole in the cuff.

The idea that having a voice in your ear would make Biden a more polished speaker is absurd on its face. I can't think of anything more distracting and disjointing than having someone else's voice in your head while trying to speak.

Honestly, and I hate the fact that I notice this because it shouldn't matter, it's because Biden actually had a suit that fit.

You're Trump. You own clothing companies and you know the White House has some of the best tailors and fitters on the planet. How are you still wearing that off the rack, hunched shoulder, bad fitting suit? You look a used car salesman who moonlights as Arby's Manager and doesn't want to admit he's gained weight and his suit doesn't fit anymore.

He's a fat guy who thinks wearing clothes 2 sizes too big hides his fatness. What he doesn't realize it really looks like he's wearing a business mumu. That and it looks like he's wearing his big brother's hand me downs.
