Yes, he was. He refused to seek a doctor to "wash his head".

No. He was a lot of things, but a coward he was not.

Everyone who served with him in WWI says that he had considerable
physical courage, and he was decorated accordingly.

True. He was a hateful, genocidal, sociopathic mass murderer. But he wasn't a coward. Of his military service, in which he witnessed great horrors and terrible suffering, he wrote that it was the happiest time of his life. I think that says a lot.

So he probably would wrestle a bear... interesting.

He also apparently refused to flee Berlin, despite the urgings of many of his inner circle, as the Allies were closing in. Not a coward, I would say.

Not true. He was a coward and a weak person internally. He
compensated this by exactly this kind of behavior Hitler is
beloved these days. Never confuse someone's strong appearance
with someone's weak mind - or people get another Hitler one day.
Same goes to playing big-balled Macho in a Pilot-Jumpsuit.

Having seen the documentaries and read about his last days in the Führerbunker, my vote is yes –he was a coward.

Was Hitler a coward? Unfortunately no. If he had been then maybe the world would have been spared the horrors of the Second World War.

Painting a caricature of an evil, weak, cowardly monster does not agree with the facts and places us in more danger of allowing his like again than acknowledging that he did have noble qualities like courage.

The reason scumbags like Hitler are so dangerous, and so frightening, is the very fact that they combine a multitude of qualities and are not comic book super villains.

As well as being courageous, he was also good with children and a flirt with a keen sense of humour. He didn't eat meat and didn't smoke.

That doesn't change anything about what he did and why though. You don't somehow become a Hitler fan boy by acknowledging this.

What you acknowledge is that, unfortunately, Hitler was just another human being.

You can't understand him or avoid his like again by pretending he was just a real life version of Dr Evil.

Is there a new corollary to Godwin's Rule that now invovles Bush?

If not, may I propose it?

You can start a thread about "Is Bush a coward". Might get
a funny discussion. Anyway - I never mentioned his name in
here until you did.

Very well said, and welcome to the forums! :D

Hitler was clearly a psychopath. Psychopaths usually feel less fear than the general population. One way to describe courage is the ability to act effectively in the presence of fear but if you are born with an inability to be afraid in the first place you act accordingly. To say or suggest that Hitler was not a coward is to also suggest that a serial killer is not cowardly even though they are despicable examples of humanity. Hitler fell into this category. A murderer who felt no remorse or fear of consequences for his actions. He may not have been a coward but he was certainly no hero.
