WA Ballot Measure Would Require Married Procreate

I actually know some of the people behind this. It is real, but it is an attempt to show just how rediculous the recent supreme court ruling refusing gay marriage was here. The court ruled that the state has the right to encourage procreation by barring Stephen and me from getting married (not to each other, we haven't met...yet). Therefore, let's show how [rule] that idea is by forcing breeders to live up to our slur for them.

Sorry dear, your three years are up

But you always use a condom!

'Be prepared' I always say, just like in Boy Scouts.

You bastard.

This is an old story. What was the outcome?

Wow! My bad. Although I had heard of this long ago, I mistakenly thought the article I referenced in the OP was current. Clearly I was wrong.

It seems the initiative did not make it to the ballot for lack of signatures, so says Wikipedia. It was withdrawn on July 3, 2007.

I still think it was a fairly good exercise in a dramatic sort of way.

Oh, I'm totally with you on that. If they want to bluster about the sacredness of baby-making, they better back it up.

Otherwise marriage is just a social contract between people who have decided to work with each other for the rest of their lives because of the deep emotional bond they feel.

And we wouldn't want that now would we?
