◊◊◊◊◊ vs Sunni

The Sunni and Shia still consider themselves "Muslim", so the analogy is apt.

I bask in your approbation. :)

kurious_kathy : Muslims share their faith in Muhammad as a mouthpiece of their god. That doesn't stop them killing each other over differing interpretations, any more than Christians are stopped from killing each other over different ideas of what "faith","Christ" or "Faith in Christ" means.

Fissiparous is a good word, and so deserves regular walkies.

I think he's refering to the scisims wich created Catholics, Baptists, Protestants, etc. (Northern conservative fundimentalist baptist, council of 1912...) As they've broken appart from each other but still calling themselves Christians. The Sunni and Shia still consider themselves "Muslim", so the analogy is apt.
I got a feeling that Kathy is going to come back with something along the lines of, "Well, Catholics/Baptists/Lutherans/etc. aren't really Christian. MY particular brand of Christianity is the true faith."

Shia -Sunni fights are generally quite violent. They are most frequent when there is no external enemy to unite against. As is the norm with all groups.

There are other small sects, some of which (like the Bahai) consider themselves muslims but are considered apostates by some other muslims.

Not quite right. I used to be Baha'i. Baha'is believe that their religion bears the same relationship to Islam that Christianity does to Judaism.

You can tell one lot in the bus queue because they smell.
And you know ET is one of the others, because he looks like one.

Or is that Protestants and Catholics?

Which ones open the boiled egg at the blunt end?

Thank the gods I'm an atheist. It's so much simpler.
