Creationism among Roman Catholics is curious phenomenon, but possibly instructive about the nature of Creationism. The RCC is very hierarchical, and much store is put in the authority of the top man, who is said to have a direct line to Heavenly authority. So when Catholics, such as Widdecombe (convert) or Pat Buchanan (born into) espouse the anti-evolution line, how do they reconcile their break with papal authority in this particular case?

Benedict is an extreme reactionary as regards science, and it is clear that anti-evolutionists have his sympathy. At the very least, the extreme right wing can pursue its projects with impunity in the Roman Church as long as the former "Panzerkardinal"'s buttocks are ensconced in the throne of Peter. Baroness Warsi and Cameron should be up there too, his were a Christian nation speech deserves a nomination.
