This popped up on the news feed on my phone yesterday and it was a WTF moment. I haven't posted on teh forums in a while and VfF hasn't been to one of our meetings in a long time so I haven't had a reason to think about her in a while either but this
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12827893
sounds like a scientific version of the babble she used to talk about. If she wasn't banned I would expect this thread to go on for 40 to 70 pages :o:rolleyes::rolleyes::p

It explains why I've always appreciated the smell of the double slit experiment ...

That's what I'm talking about! Now which kidney am I missing? Hmmm?

She's been in Sweden, but I think she's back in NC at a different university, so she might show up again. I'm sure y'all (that's how you say it, right?) are missing her.

That is how ya'll say it ya'll! Ya'll want sum grits wit that? And just like a bad penny, I am sure she will show up again.

I thought you guys liked her at FACT (http://www.meetup.com/f-a-c-t/). It didn't seem like she was that disruptive after the first couple of meetings. Anyone in North Carolina should check them out. I'll confess I've never been to North Carolina. I don't know that it's any more prone to belief in the paranormal than any other place, but even if it's just an average belief level, it sounds like FACT is sorely needed there. If you need a break, check them out.

No, she wasn't disruptive and is a very pleasant person. We just had to keep the discussions on point. Whenever we had new people to the group and they found out about Anita's supposed abilities, they were naturally curious, and one question would lead to the next and back down the rabbit hole we would go. We lost a few new members early on because it became rather off-putting. Thanks for posting the link Ward :)

Interesting story.

However, what is the connection to VfF?

I've read most of the old threads, but I don't see what this has to do with Anita.

Please enlighten me if I've missed something.

I know people make fun of US Southerners ... and having grown up for the most part in the South, I accept it. I have only a slight accent though ... and some of the colloquialisms as well. And although sometimes I do tire of the generalizations, sometimes we deserve it I'm sad to say :(

Just two days ago, I took an odd route to get home, and while waiting at a red light just east of Dallas ..... there was a morbidly obese teenage girl standing on the corner, out in front of a restaurant, with a cardboard sign. On that sign she had written: "Come in ya'll for the best catfish and waffles in town!"

:(

Well, just so you won't feel all alone, it's not confined to just US Southerners. My husband is Canadian...people love to tack on an "eh" to their sentences, or say "aboot" instead of "about" to poke fun at his native dialect.

I'm from Nevada, and when we lived in Canada, folks up there loved to tease me because I say "you guys" in the same way that Southerners use "y'all".

My cousin was born and raised in New Jersey-people always make fun of her Joisey accent when she visits other parts of the country.

That kind of teasing happens everywhere. :)

"Come in ya'll for the best catfish and waffles in town!"

Catfish and waffles? As one dish? Yerk.

I'll return you now to your regularly scheduled thread...

A lot of VfF's claims centered around her being able to sense vibrations that no one else could. There was also lots of discussion about whether she might be able to smell who was missing a kidney. I don't know if I had read the article without being prompted that it would have reminded me of VfF in any way, but obviously the article triggered the memory for godofpie. I might be triggered by an article about bigfoot or dinosaurs. She had so many claims that you rarely need six degrees of separation to get to her claims.

Dogs seem to be reliably able to do stuff like that (especially in the cancers area) - but then, IIRC, she did not resemble a dog by any definition!

There is a small (but great) restaurant chain in Los Angeles called "Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles". Their chicken, and their waffles, are delicious - both separately and together. Not a combination which would ever had occured to me, but was wonderful! I absolutely love fried catfish, so the "Catfish and Waffles" combo sounds like it might be as good as Roscoe's fare!

Every time I ate at Roscoe's I was the only caucasian in the place. Everyone else (other than my wife) was black.

One day when I was in hospital in 2008, two (black) nurses were in my room, talking about their favorite places to eat. One mentioned Roscoe's and the other agreed it was good. I pushed the blankets off of my head and said "Roscoe's? You mean Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles?" They were both surprised I had heard of it. "Are you kidding?" I said. "I love Roscoe's!" and we launched into a discussion of the menu there.

I'm guessing that Fried food and Waffles is a southern thing.
