Vermont Maple Syrup Giveaway

Last year lectures started early, 8-ish. Also, breakfast was provided...Just FYI.

Oh, and I loathe corn syrup maple syrup wannabes. So light, complex flavor- whatever the grade.

By the way Jeff, I don't have any sugar maples on my property only red maples, so the ratio is about 50 gal. of sap to 1 gal. of syrup.

No kidding? I had no idea you could get enough sap from other varieties.

Sad to say, it looks like the 2005 season is going to be a poor year for Vermont syrup. The weather has been too warm.

As a kid, I preferred "Vermont Maid," which was a corn syrup based goo, but it did have some maple in it, unlike most others. Most people I know here like the darker stuff, though few use Grade B. I know quite a few who like to drink the syrup straight.

For awhile, my mother was making syrup with "Mapeline," a chemical that just happens to taste like Maple. I have to admit that I liked the stuff, but now I can't stand anything but the real thing.

Sounds good, I'll be there. :)

Maybe you should start a separate thread announcing it?

Renata makes a good point. The official schedule says that lectures start at 9:00, but things do change. I do remember eating breakfast in the cafe in the morning last year though..

Well, I'm bringing the syrup. I'm just not sure how we'll get together. The cafe is open 24-hours...there's no saying it HAS to be breakfast.

Any ideas?

How about on the morning of the 13th? It could be a "pre-TAM" breakfast meet-and-greet.

Good idea, but I won't be in until Noon on that day, and then I'm off to the Pre-TAM workshop.

Without sounding ungrateful I'm not too sure I'm going to be able to accept Jeff's generous offer. I've just looked at the opening post photo and realised the size of the bottle I don’t think I'll be able to afford the excess baggage charge to get it back to the UK!

I know it's a kid in the photo but that is still one big bottle...

The bottle in that picture (next to my son, Simon) holds 57,248 ounces of syrup. More info

The bottles I'm bringing will be 16 oz. at most. I have to see what's available.

Fear not! I have to fly with these things too. ;)

OK, here's my solution: I changed my flight. I'll be there on Wednesday around 11:00 am.

Soo....how about breakfast on Thursday the 13th at whatever time is comfortable? I'll be staying at Bally's that night so I'll need a little time to trip down the strip.

Oh, that would be a great way to start the day! And I would be there on the 13th, bonus! Mmm pancakes!

Anybody else! What time? Where? The workshop is at one, we should have some time to breakfast and help out before the workshop!

Is 9:00 am at the Island Paradise Cafe good with everyone? Would earlier be better?

The syrup thing is the only thing I have planned for Thursday Morning, but I'd be happy to help out if help is needed.

Jeff, if you're arriving on the 12th, don't forget the party at the Peppermil! (check thread "walter wayne's bday on the 13th). From there we can warn other folks about the breakfast, what do you think? And thanks again!!!

Am I invited? I love the Peppermill!

It's Kittens and Luciana's birthday!!!

It's so cute they have the same birthday!

Bring presents. (that way I can get away with just giving them the dollar store stuff I got them.....):p

(oh yeah, remember, Kitten=Evelyn, 2nd greatest JREF intern of all time)

As soon as I get my room assignment I'll PM Jeff and let him know where to meet him.

After what Kitten's been through today trying to get copies made, she qualifies as the BEST intern. Every printer in the office crapped out on her. My brand new cyan high capacity cartridge that was installed less than 2 weeks ago on my laser printer ,didn't even make it to 2000 copies, and we were only doing spot color and the cartridge was supposed to be good for 4500 copies. My inkjet that is saying the color cartridge is still 80% good started printing pink instead of blue and even Randi's printer quit. Luckily we have a Kinko's not far away.

By the way, have I mentioned I LOVE maple sugar candy?

If room is a convern for Jeff, you can bring the candy and give it to Linda, and you won't have to bring me any syrup.
Linda works harder than I do.
