Vatican exorcises Harry Potter

That is strange. Few years ago, when John Paul II. was still alive, Vatican had issued a paper (don't know what official name of that document was) that practically said "Harry Potter is OK".
One might say "well, times are changing, we have a new Pope now", but at the time that document was issued, current Pope was Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

This is why it's called "blind faith." Don't look at anything but what you're told to look at, and don't try to use your brain to analyze anything. God is still punishing us for eating that stupid fruit and learning the diff between right and wrong.

Since that cat is now out of the bag, all God can do is try to keep you from using your unfortunate discretion.

Well, I guess I'm not the only one who thinks that the new pope is quite crackers.

Just more evidence that Roman Catholicism has gone off the deep end. <sigh>

Does the vatican's condemnation of Harry Potter extend to all fantasy books?

What about Lord Of The Rings? As far as I know Tolkien was a devout Roman Catholic.

Closer to "lapsed", he spent much of his life moving away from his faith whilst his friend, C.S. Lewis spent a similar period of time moving towards a Christian faith, the tended to fall out about this subject.

I haven't heard of Vatican taking a stand on LOTR. But it certainly contains its share of "satanic" practises. Aragorn used the dead oathbreakers of Dunharrow to overcome the corsairs of Umbar. Elvish magic was, well, magic. The army that attacked Helm's Keep was destroyed by Huorns, who can basically be described as trees possessed by demons.

On the other hand, it also contained a lot of ideas that are central in Christianity. Like forgiving the enemy. Believing that no one is beyond salvation.

However, those ideas are very present in Harry Potter as well..

Ah yes but can you tell me just what was Tom Bombadil? And do Balrogs have wings?
Do hobbits live forever in Valinor?

He was a nephilim.

So you think Bombadill was one of these?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nephilim

I always thought of him as more a kind of Maiar(kind of like Gandalf) servant of the Ainur. And Goldberry was a water sprite.

Bloody Catholics. Why do they have to go and muck up perfectly good fantasy by pretending it's real?

It's all perfectly logical
No one can agree on what Tom Bombadil was
No one can agree on what the Nephilim where
Therefore Tom Bombadil was a Nephilim.
:p

:p

I see, it's all starting to make sense now.
Tolkien was Catholic.
The Pope is Catholic.
So Harry Potter is the Devil incarnate.
(albeit fictional).

So who was Glorfindel?

That's a meaningless question, the real question is "how many ring-wraiths can dance upon the head of a pin?"

Ring-wraiths can't dance. Now if you were to ask How many ring-wraiths can ride a horse on the head of a pin, we might be getting somewhere.

Ahh so he was the same Glorfindel who died in the battle of Gondolin?

Ring-wraiths can't dance.

Maybe in your experience. I've personally danced with several ring-wraiths who could really cut a rug.

Now if you were to ask How many ring-wraiths can ride a horse on the head of a pin, we might be getting somewhere.

Two, three if they're close. A horse is only so big, after all. :p

Now, if you want to know how many horses with ring-wraiths on them can ride on the head of a pin, I'd have to say 42.
