Vancouver skeptics

Ello!

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. Bodyworlds is a no, probably, as I'm getting hooked with some tickets, so will probably use those in the future (but I'm super stoked about it!)

I'm going to try and make it, but someone PM me a phone number or something, so I can call if I can't find anybody!

Description:

### BEGIN CHANGE NOTICE ###
In response to *more and even better* feedback, I'd like to change at the last moment here to a more central location. Yaletown Pub at 1111 Mainland again, BUT the restaurant side instead of the pub side. Same pizza deals, beer deals, and they also have a magician.

I have invited as guests (waiting for confirmation) Barry Beyerstein of CSICOP. He has just returned from the CSICOP executive council's annual meeting. Hear details before the official report in Skeptical Inquirer!

I have also invited guests from the BC Ghost and Haunting Research Society to assist those who would like to learn more about the evidence presented for spiritualism, and how it is analyzed with a skeptical approach.

Please be kind to our guests!
### END CHANGE NOTICE ###

Discussion is open, but I have had a request to start with a theme question: "Is there evidence for a part of us that can exist without a physical body?"

: : Driving:
- The pub is downtown. The closest bridge is the Cambie, but if you're coming up the 99 (Granville St), take the Pacific exit one you're over the Granville St. bridge.

- Parking's a challenge downtown, but there are metered spaces everwhere. Watch for one-way streets. (Remember: in downtown vancouver, two wrongs don't make a right, but sometimes three lefts can.)

: : Public Transportation:
A few blocks from Granville Skytrain station. Granville, Davie, Beach and Cambie bus routes have stops close enough to only require walking a couple of blocks.

: : Lost? PM me on this forum sometime before Sunday afternoon, for my cell#. For easy identification, I am going to wear the most hideous shirt I own.

I'm gonna be out of town Saturday and part of Sunday, but I'll try and make it as I should be back by 7pm.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum so forgive me for catching up.

I actually live three blocks from the Yaletown Brewpub but cannot make it this weekend. I'll try to keep in touch.

Fooey. Of all the times to be out of Vancouver...

Next time!

Well, Heather from BCGHRS was unable to attend this time, so we'll try to line her up for the next meeting. She has done several talks at local colleges, so I expect she has a good presence and look forward to her presentation.

Barry Beyerstein was there and reiterated that CSICOP is very serious about dropping the "COP" part. This is more or less what was published in the latest SI, but it was good to hear a little more about the rationale. Also, that they are aware that calling the organization "CSI" could lead to confusion.

We also had some people from UBC Skeptics Club, which I think is a good precedent - I'd like to create an environment where students can graduate and have a place to go "after". Transitioning to an established organization with existing connections to university chapters should keep membership active and ease recruiting efforts. This is sort of what Grothe wants to do with CFI, and it makes sense.

I'm looking for ideas for future meetings: activities and guests.
