Vaccine/autism CT discussion

Let's put it this way if child who gets measles is not tended to/treated in a timely manner measles is dangerous.

A child can get measles, be tended in a timely manner and STILL DIE of encephalitis, or get the delayed SSPE -- (subacute sclerosing panencephalitis) and die several years later.

During MY childhood: polio, chickenpox, measles, rubella, mumps, scarlet fever (I was one of the test subjects for the polio vaccine, remember the intro of the measles vaccine, was an early recipient of the whooping cough vaccine, had a friend die of cardiac arrest caused by scarlet fever)

That was my childhood too, only Scarlet Fever was called Scarlatina. (That's not a girl's name, anti-vaccers) Once again Clayton's truth by proclamation fails.

I had that, though luckily only a mild dose. I wasn't aware at the time, but my mum must have been pretty worried, since I think that's what her brother died of.

I had all those as a child, with the exception of polio; I had the vaccine for that, and I remember it very clearly, as I had been promised that it would be on a sugar cube. They'd run out, and I had to have it from a spoon.

My children had none of them, and had all the vaccinations going, and that's the way I prefer it. While it was accepted that children would get those diseases, and most would be fine, there were still the few that were not, and who were either permanently disabled or died.

Same here, only my polio vaccine was on a sugar cube. I was only six, but I can remember my mother's face beaming after I swallowed it. Why Clayton wants to go back to the bad old days is a mystery.

I've repeatedly pointed out that tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands, of parents have noticed and reported to their physicians that their child regressed to autistic behavior after the child's MMR shot. ...

This has been discussed and clarified, CM.
Why even bring it up again?
Or if you really feel the need to say such a thing, why not back it up with the studies which show a correlation between the two events?

Thank goodness the Scarlet Fever vaccine has all but wiped out Scarlet Fever in the US and developed countries.

It's every bit as effective as the CT vaccine which I believe CM missed getting because he was sick that day with either the measles or the mumps.

Scarlet fever is still a potentially serious childhood disease. However it can usually be treated by antibiotics, a primary reason it is not commonly targeted by vaccination. A second reason is that there are many different strains, making development of a vaccine more difficult.

Unfortunately, the appearance of antibiotic resistant strains is increasing the public health risk once again, so it is far from wiped out. This may encourage vaccine development in the future.

Clayton, aren't the facts even more fascinating than conspiracy theories? And they have the added benefit of being true!

Yep, I got the cube. Strangely purple. round about the 6-7 mark IIRC.

BTW, daf you are only a few years ahead of me.

My first polio vaccination was an injection with the Salk vaccine. I only received the liquid Sabin vaccine (dropper, no sugar cube) as a booster.

As I've told Clayton in prior posts, my older sister remembers very well the fear of polio every summer until the Salk vaccine became available. We both knew of children paralyzed by the disease prior to the vaccine. But it must not have been a childhood disease, because no one worried about childhood diseases, right?

Yup. I had a grand aunt as a victim. Wonderful person. Loved kids. Totally messed up by polio.

In any any case, what does this have to do with posting up the evidence of a link between vaccines and autism?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarlet_fever "Before the availability of antibiotics, scarlet fever was a major cause of death. It could also cause late complications such as glomerulonephritis and endocarditis leading to heart valve disease, all of which were protracted and often fatal afflictions at the time."

The morbidity is about the same ... what has changed is the mortality. A simple case of strep throat gets a course of antibiotics and doesn't have a chance to
