Vaccine/autism CT discussion

1. Please summarize the video before expecting people to watch it.
2. What makes anti-vax people so certain that YouTube videos serve as scientifically valid citations?

Did you notice the disclaimers at the beginning of the video that state the video should not be considered medical advice, that the government health agencies recommend vaccination, that the producers take no resposibility for anyone following their advice? Basically they are saying that the video is medically and scientifically invalid.

Thats not what they are saying at all, they are saying that it is valid (wink, wink) but they have to add the disclaimer so that the information doesnt get buried in litigation and lawsuits if they say its valid.

Omg opps i was wrong@@@!!! This Explains it!

I think you better research both sides in depth without a biased point of view

Pretty funny coming from someone who doesn't know that paediatric vaccines for developed countries are preservative-free and doesn't know the difference between aluminium and mercury.

Yep, that's some mighty fine reesurch you have there robcasey.

Yes, they seem pretty pessimistic that their views would prevail if they had to prove them in a court of law, don't they? My doctor didn't feel the need to provide me with a similar disclaimer when he last vaccinated me.

Why don't some of you try drinking the toxins in the shots and see what happens!

Sure which toxins are you talking about? Salt?

Over the past several years, because of an increasing awareness of the theoretical potential for neurotoxicity of putting mercury in vaccines they have started to phase it out somewhat, as explained at the FDA website.

That is another great demonstration of how out of touch you are with the facts in this controversy. You say "over the past several years", yet thimerosal has been removed from all required childhood vaccines since 2001! You're only a decade off.

Really, if you can't get a simple fact like that right, why should we believe anything you say?

Spit out a line. Drop a yuutuube link. Lather, rinse, repeat.

You honestly think that we haven't? Your side has nothing but hysteria, FUD, and the most psychotically mean-spirited proponents in the entire realm of woo. Your evidence doesn't even come up to the level of 'pathetic'. Why don't you actually try to defend some of the stuff you have vomited onto this forum rather than spewing another video linking and running?

And why dont you try watching that last link and then reply (you shill)!

Sorry, don't do yootoob. Explains what? If you have a point to make, summarize it here.

Speaking of which, have you checked any of the citations you have been given, or are you still looking for something to validate what you've already decided?

TSR invented dungeons and dragons!:D

A hint: you don't just throw out yootoob links and demand we watch them. We got tired of that over 6 years ago with the various 9/11 cranks and their endless lying videos.

You want to link to a video? Fine. But around here you also bring summarization of the arguments you find compelling and why. That's the etiquette around here. Otherwise you are just link spamming.

So, robcasey, could you post up something defending your point of view that isn't a youtube link or a rant, please?

I find the guy with the mullet highly convincing.

Oh and look! Greg Beattie, his lies were fantastically demolished here.

Summary: A skeptical statistician was invited to speak at a Australian Vaccination Network event (this is .au's largest anti-vax group) to provide balance, he was better prepared then they thought and explains the logical and mathematical errors being made, to the embarrassment of the organisers

Thanks for the link!
Well worth listening to, that was.

That was beautiful. Controlled, confident delivery with even a hint of apology. 'I'm sorry Greg...' and then destroys his argument. Its a sad subject but that presentation has cheered me. :)

Phew! Just finished reading this thread, took me 2 days but I got there in the end. I just wanted to say that I well remember when Wakefield's study and its conclusions were in the news. My youngest son was a baby at the time and when the notification for his MMR vaccinations came I am ashamed to say I ignored it and didn't take him for his jabs. There was so much confusion about it all at the time and I was too scared to take the chance, however small, that he may be harmed in some way.

I (and he) was extremely lucky that he never contracted any of these diseases and for that I am thankful. I now encourage all my kids to vaccinate their children in order to keep them and others safe from these awful diseases.

I can't believe that there are STILL people out there who are peddling this dangerous misinformation after 20 years, even though it has been thoroughly debunked in so many studies. I realise that maybe thinking they know something we don't makes them feel 'special' in some way, but is the loss of children's lives really a price worth paying just so some people can feel superior?

D

Thing is, kids who aren't vaxxed have a low chance of getting a disease, because of all the kids who are. So parents don't vaxx their kids, the kids don't get sick, they convince themselves that it's because kids don't need vaccines.

I wonder what they do if the kid gets sick or dies from something they could've gotten a vaccine for? Say they got it from the kids with the shots? How do they rationalize it? Anti-vaxxers make a lot out of the parts that they think support them, but not so much when people actually die from this stuff.
